Tuesday, April 16, 2024 Gamon Room, City Hall I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm Present In-person – Louise Ferrebee (Chair), Joe Szczepaniak (Vice Chair), Bob Purdy (Secretary), Mike Hill (Treasurer), Nancy Flannery, Syed Hussain Public – Maureen Dawson-Hurst II. Public Comments Maureen Dawson-Hurst attended to learn more about the work of the Historic Commission. Her home at 120 S. President is on the Historic Register. III. Approval of February Meeting Minutes Approved on a motion by Nancy, seconded by Mike, and passed unanimously. IV. Treasurer Report: A report will be presented at the May meeting, following Preservation Week and the posting of related expenses. V. Ongoing Business A. Walking Tour of Main Street: research update. Work by commissioners on getting details about the homes on the tour is ongoing. More information should be available to report after May activities. B. Red Grange historical marker  Feedback from Wheaton Park District: Placement of the marker in Rotary Park has been approved. This location at Main St. and Roosevelt Rd. (adjacent to Central Athletic Complex) was formerly Wheaton High School property where Red Grange attended school.  Vote to proceed with marker and place it in 2025 budget: A motion was made by Joe, seconded by Bob, and passed unanimously. C. Otto Hake Murals DuPage Heritage Gallery – preservation concern. Nancy is working with Phil Buchanan, DuPage County Historical Society, plus some other groups and mural sites to establish the value of preserving the endangered murals. A motion to continue to support preservation of the Otto Hake murals was made by Joe, seconded by Bob, and passed unanimously. VI. New Business A. Preservation Week May 2024 HISTORIC COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Month Date, Year  Home History Research May 9 and May 13 from 6-9 pm. Commissioners will be assisting homeowners at WPL as they begin research for Historic Register applications.  Sign assignments. Routes for Wheaton Historic Property sign placements were distributed. Bob is emailing tips for using the Wheaton Address Map PDF to make paper maps to facilitate sign placements.  Sign Pick-up. This will be April 30, 3:30-4:30 at City Hall rear entrance.  Publicity. All remaining tasks are expected to be completed by due dates. VII. Updates A. LIVE! Wheaton Register of Historic Places: application and support documentation on website. Completed in time for Preservation Week and Home History Research sessions. B. Commission Handbook ongoing development. VIII. Commissioner Comments. None IX. Adjournment. Bob moved to adjourn, Nancy seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting concluded at 8:21 pm. X. Next Meeting: Tuesday, May 21, 2024 2
