June 14, 2018 I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL VOTE Chair Taylor called the June 14, 2018 meeting of the Local Tobacco Control Commission to order at 7:22 P.M. in the City Council Chambers of the Wheaton City Hall, 303 West Wesley Street. Upon roll call, the following were present: Chair Taylor, Commissioner Pearse and Commissioner Sender. Absent: Commissioner Brown and Commissioner Wolgemuth. City Staff Present: James P. Kozik, Director of Planning and Economic Development. II. PUBLIC COMMENT There was no public comment. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – May 10, 2018 Hearing no questions or comments, Commissioner Pearse moved and Commissioner Sender seconded a motion to recommend approval of the minutes of the May 10, 2018 Local Tobacco Control Commission meeting as submitted. On a voice vote, all voted aye. IV. NEW BUSINESS There was no New Business. V. OLD BUSINESS Violation Hearing – Namaste Foods, LLC d/b/a Namaste Foods – 1801 E. Roosevelt Road Chair Taylor stated that as the store owner was not able to attend last month’s meeting, the Commission asked to have Mr. Thapa at this month’s meeting in order to discuss the procedures the store has in place to ensure that tobacco products are not sold to underage persons. Mr. Bhim Thapa, owner of Namaste Foods stated that he has put in place POS software requiring the verification of age prior to the sale of tobacco products. Chair Taylor stated that he was pleased to hear this especially in light of the minimum age of sale of tobacco products is changing to 21 on July 1st. Mr. Thapa apologized for the incident. LOCAL TOBACCO CONTROL COMMISSION MEETING June 14, 2018 VI. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS There was no miscellaneous business. VII.
