5:30 pm – Call to Order
• Jack Brown agreed to facilitate the meeting.
5:30 – 5: 45 pm Welcome and Introductions
• Introductions: Board members and staff made brief remarks.
• Identification of August meeting minute-taker: Barry Carroll volunteered.
5:45 – 5:55 pm Roles and Responsibilities of the Board (Overview)
• Scott Wadle, MAPD Advanced Plans, handed out copies of the ordinance creating the Wichita Bicycle and
Pedestrian Advisory Board, provided a brief overview, and responded to questions.
5:55 – 6:05 Bikeways Design Projects (Overview)
• Paul Gunzelman, PW&U Engineering, provided a brief description of the bicycle facility design projects
that the City Council approved the contracts for earlier that day. These projects will be completed by four
engineering firms. These projects are tentatively scheduled to be presented at neighborhood meetings in
September and DAB meetings in October.
6:05 – 6:15 pm WAMPO Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Counts (Overview)
• Zach Edwardson, WAMPO, made brief remarks and provided everyone with a new bike/ped map.
According to Zach, volunteers will be needed for the upcoming bike/ped official count on September 12 &
14. Board members were encouraged to volunteer.
6:15 – 6:25 pm Delano Bicycle Parking – Phase II (Overview)
• Mike Lemke, MAPD Advanced Plans, provided information about the ongoing work to update the Delano
West Douglas Avenue Bicycle Parking Plan. This work includes re-prioritizing some of the rack locations for
Phase II. The City has secured federal transportation funding to install Phase II.
6:20 - 6:30 pm Delano Oil Drilling and Future Path Corridor (Overview)
• Scott Wadle, MAPD Advanced Plans, explained that the site plan submitted for the proposed oil drilling in
Delano shows that the screening wall would no longer encroach on the former railroad corridor, a potential
bike/ped cooridor. There will be additional public meetings pertaining to this issue.
6:30 – 6:40 pm Pedestrian Master Plan (Overview)
• Scott Wadle, MAPD Advanced Plans, explained that a Pedestrian Master Plan Steering Committee needed
to be formed ASAP. Scott provided a list of candidates for the proposed Steering Committee. The staff
recommendation was for the Steering Committee to be created as a sub-committee of the Wichita Bicycle
and Pedestrian Advisory Board. After a brief discussion, a motion was made by Carroll [Bostic] that the staff
recommendation, including the slate of candidates, be approved as recommended. Motion carried. In
addition, there were board members who agreed to serve on the Master Pedestrian Subcommittee as well
[see attached list].
6:40 – 6:50 pm Project Tracking List (Overview)
• The board decided that it would be a good idea to track the various bike/ped projects that have been
recently approved. Individuals on the board volunteered for particular projects and agreed to track,
monitor and make brief reports at future meetings (see the list below).

• September meeting date and time: Scott will survey the group and identify an agreed upon date/time. It
was decided to continue to meet at the Transit Center.
6:55 – 7:00 pm Public Comment: Amy Delamaide was introduced. Amy agreed to serve on the Master
Pedestrian Subcommittee. In addition, Amy expressed an interest in serving on the board if there are
any openings since she is an avid cyclist.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 pm. It was a productive initial meeting!
