Call to Order
Eddie Fahnestock, President, called the meeting to order at approximately 3:01 p.m.
Announcements
Nominated for Gold Medal Award and we are one of four finalists. Will find out in September
if we were chosen for the award.
Motion by Fahnestock, second by Palmer, IT WAS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED to move the Golf
discussion to a special meeting on May 17, 2021 (5-0).

Houtman: Packets will be made, and meetings will be set.

SA GAC Communication
Fahnestock: Good boards and committee have good communication. If you are not already
in contact with your GAC member at least once a month, please take 5-10 minutes each
month to touch base with them to see what is going on.
Houtman: We have a vacancy on the GAC. He has tried multiple times to make contact with
him, he has not attended any meetings in 6-7 months. Suggest voting him off the GAC today
and fill that vacant seat.
Motion by Deatherage, second by Fahnestock, IT WAS UNANIMOUSLY VOTED to remove
Cory Rainwater from the Golf Advisory Committee (S-0).
Fahnestock left the meeting at approximately 3:14 p.m.
4 Recreation Update (Reggie Davidson)
Boston: Specialty camps starting to take registrations, rentals are increasing and will continue
to do so as public gains confidence in community.
Linwood: Reopened after 1 year with modified hours. Partnered with Sunflower Horseshoe
Club to offer horseshoes and croquet classes. Linwood splash pad construction underway and
set to open in June. Park shelter construction to begin in mid-May.
Tennis Center: Ribbon cutting ceremony was held on April 24th to celebrate completion of
renovations. Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation of Kansas Inc gave a $403,000
donation for this project.
New Evolve guide to be mailed out.
Tabing: Will there be any invites to any special events?
Houtman: Yes, working on them for the pools now.
Cabral joined the meeting at approximately 3:21 p.m.
6 Park Maintenance & Forestry (David McGuire)
This past month was Arbor Day, we made a video of staff planting trees. Over 2K inspections
in April, over 800 pruning of trees and almost 300 tree removals. 13 members of Project
Beauty present for the Arbor Day video. The foot bridge at Pawnee Prairie Park was
completed. Illegal dumping is a very large issue and contracted ground maintenance in full
operations.
Goter: With staff shortages and hiring freeze, how much are we saving by not hiring or doing
to help balance budget?
McGuire: It is about $1M with about 40 vacancies.
7 Finance Update (Emma Li-Wormington)
Current revenue is about $161,739 through 4/30/2021
Admin: SBA Tower rental
Recreation: 35% rental, 34% lessons/fees, 28% concessions
Forestry: Special events
New technology is being utilized at pools and Southlakes
Current expenses are about 24% of budget, $4,097,845
Golf Revenue: $1,079,409 YTD and Expenses: $917,862 YTD
Net P&L: $161,547
Current ERF: $166,654.81
Recent Purchases:
Kansas Golf & Turf $4,999 Driving range picker
Professional Turf Products $45,237.25 Grinder
Kansas Golf & Turf $30,000 used mower

8 Wichita Parks Foundation Update
Houtman: We are close to finalizing special benches for the parks. There will be 2 benches per
district.
9 President's Update
No update at this time
10 Director's Update
Houtman: Continue to prepare for Red, White & Boom as well as Open Streets ICT.
Gold Medal finalist, previously won in 1967 (with Seattle) We focused on our programming
and community involvement.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 3:58 p.m.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021.
