District I Advisory Board Minutes September 14, 2015 www.wichita.gov The District I Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center located at 2755 E. 19th St. N., Wichita, KS, 67214. Janice Rich Order of Business Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda submitted. Motion carried 5:0. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve the minutes submitted. Motion carried 5:0. Public Agenda Agenda Items Karen Lippoldt and Jennifer Schierlman, provided information on opportunities and resources available through the Salvation Army.  Foster homes are needed for full-time and respite youth  Salvation Army had a residential facility with approximately 30 youth males  Foster care requirements include 7-wk classes  Donations for holidays gifts are requested District I Advisory Board Minutes September 14, 2015 Page 2 of 3 Off Agenda Items A citizen requested room space at Atwater for the annual fundraiser for the Bulldogs Football team. The request was referred to District I-Community Services Representative for follow-up. Staff Reports Fire Report Lt. Micah Hoelscher reported that 16 out of 34 fires were investigated in August; those fires resulted in $1.1 million in damages. 2015: 75,000 alarm projection which is 3,000 more than 2014 which is trending higher now. Police Report Officer Donielle Watson, Patrol North 44 Beat, reported that he attended the NE Central NA meeting to discuss blight and trash dumping. 2nd shift Community Policing now has Lieutenant Sarah Oldridge. There were four aggravated assaults (violent crime) that were all domestic violence related. Graffiti near 17th and Hillside N. was discussed (not gang related). Officer Tammie Doshier, Patrol South 25 Beat, gave a statistical report on crime in the 21, 22, 23 and 25 beats. Officer R.L. West, Patrol East 38 Beat, also gave a statistical report on crime in the East Bureau. 38 Beat was down in aggravated assaults, auto thefts, residential burglaries and robberies and non-residential burglaries. On 9-11-15 a DUI checkpoint was held in the 400 block of S. Washington. 384 vehicles were stopped with 5 DUI arrest, 6 open containers, 12 seatbelt citations and 36 other citations. The new group home near Hyde has no complaints. Action Taken: Receive and File. New Business Michelle Stroot from Transit, provided information on the service changes that will be recommended to City Council. Proposed changes of streamlining routes, fairs ($5 day pass, discontinue of 20 day and 3 day passes) and elimination of transferred were shared. Customers will need exact change. Riders increased with “Free Week” riding. February 29th is the tentative start date for changes. Greyhound transportation services might collaborate to use the Transit Center. There is a public hearing on October 6, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. Recommended action: Provide feedback. Board Agenda Updates, Issues and Reports  Several announcements were made about upcoming neighborhood clean-ups.  Tree at Sleepy Hallow Park is in danger and storm drain is broken at Roosevelt on the creek  Safe Community announcements were made  Council Member Lavonta Williams shared an update on Fairmount neighborhood meetings  MAPC hear the request for a night club near Central & Cleveland  College Hill has a zoning issue of land purchased in the Douglas & Rutan area 2 District I Advisory Board Minutes September 14, 2015 Page 3 of 3 Adjournment Motion to adjourn was made and seconded. Each presentation is limited to five minutes unless extended by the Board. 1. Scheduled Items Karen Lippoldt and Jennifer Schierlman, will provide information on opportunities and resources available through the Salvation Army. No items. 2. Off Agenda Items Any individual present that did not request to speak on the public agenda prior to the meeting may speak at this time. Staff Reports 3.
