District I Advisory Board Minutes October 5, 2015 www.wichita.gov The District I Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center located at 2755 E. 19th St. N., Wichita, KS, 67207. 12 Board Members, 4 Staff and 6 Members of the public were present. Ohaebosim Members Absent Guests Aaron Mayes Listed on last page Order of Business Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda submitted. Public Agenda Scheduled Items No Items District I Advisory Board Minutes October5, 2015 Page 2 of 3 Off Agenda Items Jane Byrnes promoted the Sedgwick County Department challenge for residents to ‘Walk With Me’ during WalkTober. She also encouraged biking and walking in Wichita. DAB: Council Member Williams questioned what schools in District I were participating in WalkTober? Byrum Huff resident of District I questioned the regulations of landlords and stated that he agreed some formality is necessary with consistent follow up from inspectors. He also requested information to join District I Advisory Board. Staff Reports Fire Report Lt. Micah Hoelscher reported 7 fires in September. For fire prevention week schools will receive visits. It was mentioned that with colder weather coming up residents call the fire department if they smell something when the heater is turned on. Police Report Officer Matt Lowe, Patrol East, 31 Beat, also gave a statistical report on crime in the East Bureau. Stats were down from last month. 2 homicides took place near 2nd Grove and 300 block of S. Chautauqua. Officer Tammie Doshier, Patrol South 25 Beat, gave a statistical report on crime in the 21, 23 and 25 beats. Crimes included larcenies and auto thefts. It was suggested that residents keep their belongings locked up and stored away in cars. Office Doshier plans to participate in a walk to school with students. Officers also presented at the GEAR UP conference for 8th graders. Action Taken: Receive and File. New Business No Items Board Agenda Updates, Issues and Reports  Recap of October District 1 Breakfast with Assistant City Manager, Scot Rigby presenting  October 20, 2015 City Council will re-vote on the night club license request for Central and Hydraulic area  Greyhound might merge offices with Wichita Transit Center  Fall festival at Schweiter  New apartments at 34th & Woodlawn to include culture for Middle Eastern students  21st & Oliver concern for rezoning a residential area on NW corner is still in discussion  WIN membership opens in January 2016  Youth DAB Member was introduced  Dedication of Red Bud Trail will likely be Spring 2016 2 District I Advisory Board Minutes October5, 2015 Page 3 of 3 Adjournment Motion to adjourn was made and seconded. Each presentation is limited to five minutes unless extended by the Board. 1. Scheduled Items No items. 2. Updates, Issues and Reports Opportunity is provided for the Council Member and the District Advisory Board members to report any activities, events, or concerns in the neighborhoods and/or Council District.  Request for nightclub near Central & Hydraulic denied MAPC  Atwater NRC hours of operation are changing effective Monday, October 12, 2015: Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m./Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m./Closed Daily 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. Recommended Action: Receive and file The next DAB I meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 2, 2015, at the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center, 2755 E.19th St. N., Wichita, KS 67214.
