District I Advisory Board Minutes August 1, 2016 www.wichita.gov The District I Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center located at 2755 E. 19th St. N., Wichita, KS, 67214. Nine board members, five staff and three members of the public were present. Members Present Staff Present Lavonta Williams J. Brown, WFD Prisca Barnes Officer J. Approval of Minutes Motion to approve July minutes with correction of the next District Advisory Board meeting date. Motion by Roseboro/Thompson, carried 8:0. Public Agenda Scheduled Items No Items Off Agenda Items No Items Staff Reports Fire Report J. Brown, Station 10, shared that in July there were 31 fires city wide and 10 in District I (3 of the city wide fires were related to fireworks). Citizens were encouraged to remain safe in the heat. Recio, Patrol South, shared stats and an update that the abortion protest was peaceful and self-policed with 1 arrest, WPD is preparing to support Neighborhood Night Out, all patrol beats are having cookouts, RV’s parked on the streets has been a problem and the ordinance needs revised, and Convoy of Hope is August 6th. Officer J. Hook, Patrol East, shared stats for patrol east. Library Report Anne Ethen, Wichita Public Library, shared an update on new library in downtown area can be viewed on the website, summer reading program increased 20% at the Angelou branch. All summer programs and activities are over for the summer. Story-times and programs resume in September. Voter registration and technology classes are available. New Business No Items Board Agenda Updates, Issues and Reports Vice Mayor  The Hyatt Hotel sold for 20 million dollars  A new hotel is proposed for the downtown area and this can assist with attraction for NCAA tournaments  Spaghetti Warehouse owner is considering renovations for apartments  Conversations are taking place with health officials concerning prescription drugs, opioids and heroin. Vice Mayor has a planned trip. DAB Members  The City’s summer youth employment program provided a lot learning opportunities. Janet Wilson would like to see the program opened up to all youth in the city.  Conversation is continuing to build bridges with WPD  NE Heights NA is continuing to watch the changes at WSU  The new advanced library should have concrete poured soon Citizen  The nextdoor.com website does not have the correct boundaries for neighborhood association Recommended Action: Receive and file Adjournment Motion to adjourn by Roseboro/Wilson, motion passed 8:0.
