Page |1 District II Advisory Board Minutes April 11, 2016 www.wichita.gov The District II Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #20, 2255 S. Greenwich Rd, Wichita KS, 67207. The Council Member, six board members, four staff were present. ATTENDANCE Members Present Staff Present David Babich Lt. Approval of minutes from March 14, 2016: Approved 6-0. Approval of Agenda: Approved 6-0. Public Agenda Scheduled Items: None Off-Agenda Items: None Staff Reports Community Police Report: No Report Fire Department Report: Lt. Russell Harrison, reported.  Grass fires due to dry conditions have lessened. Probable cause is tossed cigarettes  Burn Ban still in effect through April Park and Recreation Department: Alan Taber, reported.  Bunny Blast at Watson Park was a huge success – over 1,000 estimated attendance  Watson Park – New train to be delivered soon. Being built by Chance Manufacturing  T-Ball sign-ups through Academy Sports – Receive a $30 gift card to Academy Sports if you sign up at their location  Spring Cycle Spectacular – 9:30-11:00am, Saturday, April 16, at Lawrence Dumont Stadium Page |2  Gearing up for Summer of Discovery  $99 per week  New destination field trips planned to the Sports Forum and Dart Wars  Activity Camp sign-ups are under way  Aquatics Master Plan – seeking community input at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at Edgemoor Recreation Center, 5815 E. 9th. Wichita Public Library Report: Helen Rigdon, Senior Librarian, reported on events at the Comotara and Rockwell branches  Seeking public’s feedback on technology preferences through online survey  Summer Reading Program – Ready, Set, Read  Applications being accepted for the summer Teen Volunteer Programs for grades 8-12  Young Artist Reception at Rockwell Branch – very well attended. 125 kids’ art on display through April  Spring used book sale at the Central Library – April 23-24  Tech Class at Rockwell – IPad usage – April 28 from 6:00-7:30pm  Study being conducted by the Hugo Wall School for Public Affairs at WSU to determine best use practices for library branches Public Works Report: No report New Business None Old Business None Board Agenda Dave Babich: reported on the recent CDBG funding allocations. Report attached. CM Meitzner  E. Kellogg, Greenwich to K96, improvements delayed to the first of July  Received no complaints on left turns at Kellogg-Webb  Blaine Knott has resigned from DAB II due to health issues  June reappointments – please notify if you do not wish to be reappointed Meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. Next Meeting: The next meeting for District Advisory Board II will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, at Fire Station #20, 2255 S. Community Police Report Community Police Officers for beat areas in District II will report on specific concerns. Recommended Action: Receive and file 4. Fire Department Report Fire Department Staff for fire stations in District II will report on specific concerns. Recommended Action: Receive and file 5. Park and Recreation Department Park and Recreation Staff for parks in District II areas will report on specific concerns. Recommended Action: Receive and file 6. Wichita Public Library Report Helen Rigdon, Senior Librarian, will report on events at the Comotara and Rockwell branches. Recommended Action: Receive and file 7. Public Works Engineering Report Public Works Engineering will give an update on District II projects. Recommended Action: Receive and file. New Business NONE Board Agenda 9.
