Page |1 District II Advisory Board Minutes May 14, 2018 www.wichita.gov The District II Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Rockwell Branch Library, 5939 E. 9th St. Wichita, KS 67208. Seven board members, Councilman Meitzner and eight staff were present. Approved 7-0 Approval of Minutes from April 9, 2018: Approved 7-0 Public Agenda 1. Scheduled Items: None 2. Off-Agenda Items: None Staff Reports 3. Community Police Report: Community Police Officer Ron Sanders reported.  Auto thefts up across the city – older, heavier vehicles – possibly being used to crush for scrap metal  Auto larcenies down  Commercial air-conditioners being targeted – possible suspects identified  Page |2 4. Fire Department Report: Firefighter Jason Nelson reported.  New fireworks ordinance passed City Council and takes effect this year  $250 fine  Increased enforcement funded by tent permit fee  22 patrol units staffed with one firefighter and one police officer  June 27-July 5  Nothing over six feet  Adults can be cited for their children 5. Park and Recreation Department: Jon Sidwell, Park & Recreation reported.  Summer of Discovery – ages 6-13  Activity Camps  Swimming pools open Memorial Day  New Superintendent – Reggie Davidson started last week 6. Wichita Public Library Report: Savannah Ball, Rockwell/Comotara Branch Library, reported.  May 17 – Summer Reading Program registration begins  Evening and weekend storytimes have been added to the Rockwell Branch calendar for summer  Central Library closed on May 6 after 51 years  Advanced Learning Library opens on June 16  Council approved $125,000 contract to pay for movers 7. Public Works Report: Paul Gunzelman, Assistant City Engineer, reported.  Kellogg/Greenwich – one through lane in each direction until December  Kellogg/Webb – Great progress with little problems – will be completed next year  143rd Street – Southbound lanes are complete. Getting ready to pour northbound lanes. Looking to extend eastbound Kellogg turn lanes  127th Street – Construction has begun – one way northbound  29th/127th intersection – Should be open soon  Stryker – construction going well – fields being installed Action Taken: Receive and file all Staff reports. APPROVED 7-0 New Business 8. None  Page |3 9. Updates, Issues and Reports  Carter – Moving to Kansas City and is resigning from DAB II. Thanksful to CM Meitzner for giving him the opportunity to serve and make an impact on our City  Meitzner  Thank you gift presented to Carter for his many years of service and contributions to DAB II  Stryker – Lots of calls coming in to host tournaments. Area has exploded with development  Master aquatics plan on tomorrow’s Council Agenda  District II breakfast is this Saturday – Project Wichita Meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m. Next Meeting: The next meeting for District Advisory Board II will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Rockwell Branch Library, 5939 E. 9th St. Wichita, KS 67208.
