C (Bruce Gass) – 28 Maverick – Chisolm Creek HOA – Moved from District 3 where I served for 7 years.
Still on block grant citizen board. A lot I like about Wichita, but when things were exciting, our Chief of
Police kept us out of the national news and that right now is one of my favorite things about Wichita.
C (Malachi Winters) – 2552 North Oxford Court – Enjoying watching DAB thank you for having me.
Action Taken: Received and filed.

5. Wichita Police Department Report
Officer Floyd:
Two biggest crime issues – vehicles and burglary.
Uptick in construction site burglaries in east Wichita. Going after hand tools. Doing special assignments
and made some arrests.
Q (CM Tuttle): Have you communicated with Wichita Area Builders Association? They can maybe
communicate something in their newsletter.
A: I have not and I will see if my colleagues have. That’s a really good idea.
The second issue is vehicles. We are seeing a record low of people breaking into vehicles in DAB 2.
However, for total year, we’ve had a big uptick. Sending out information on license plate readers and
special assignments. Caught several people overnight. Working with HOAs and NAs.

Patrol East community policing are taking donations of food and clothing for winter and we have been
overwhelmed by the Wichita community and their giving. We have a few places in mind for giving that to.
You might see more police activity in your neighborhood if you are seeing problems at night. Flexing
schedules to address overnight car vandalisms and theft.
If you haven’t seen Patrol East community policing put up some informational videos about not leaving
cars running and not leaving valuables in cars overnight.
Q (CM Tuttle): Are you still taking donations?
A: We are at Patrol East until the end of the week.
C (CM Tuttle): And if you get newspapers, take them to the Wichita Animal Shelter.
C (DAB): I’ve had many questions about panhandling and an officer was so kind and so helpful to me. It
was very nice to feel heard and listened to.
Q (DAB): With car running, if it’s locked and remote started, is that not what you’re talking about?
A: That’s more of a controlled situation. Folks are starting their vehicle and leave and do something just
for a second. They close the door and it’s not locked. It’s always safest to have someone out there with
the vehicle if you can.
6. Wichita Park and Recreation Report
None
7. Wichita Public Library Report
Savannah Ball, Rockwell Branch Library, reported:
All library locations operating with curbside and drive thru service only. You can still borrow materials and
place a hold. We are currently waiving fees for that. When materials are ready for pickup, we notify the
customer automatically. We are still doing copy, print and fax service through curbside and drive thru
window. Public computing is not available. Our digital collection is always available 24/7 on Overdirve and
Flipster. You can get more information on these services by going to our website.
We are working up to our NEA Big Read. It has been pushed back to January 9 through February 21 due
to COVID. It will be virtual this year. This year’s book is Circe by Madeline Miller. The kickoff event will be
broadcast on KPTS Channel 8. You can stream live on KPTS.org. You can learn more at
BigReadWichita.org.
Registration for Winter session of virtual programs available online now. They will all be on Zoom.
Working with YMCA for Cooking Matters series through January 12th. How to shop for and cook healthy
meals on a budget. Class is specifically for adults who are caregivers of parents or are parents.
C (CM Tuttle): When I worked for YMCA before council, we always participated in the Big Read and it is a
really fun way to engage with the City and interact as a group.
Action Taken: Received and filed.
