District III Advisory Board Minutes for September 6, 2017 District III Advisory Board Minutes September 6, 2017 www.wichita.gov The District III Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at the WATER Center, 101 E. Pawnee, Wichita, KS 67211; Council Member James Clendenin, nine District Advisory Board members, three City staff and four members of the public were present. Mark Misek, WFD Station 2 Daisy Olivar Officer Joshua Hayes, Patrol South David Robbins Ron Tracy Guests Council Member James Clendenin Listed on last page ORDER OF BUSINESS At 6:30 p.m. Council Member James Clendenin called the meeting to order. The agenda for the current meeting was approved. The minutes for August 2, 2017, were approved. STAFF REPORTS Fire Report Lt. Mark Misek, Fire station 2 (Lincoln & Broadway), reported Fire Chief Ron Blackwell has resigned and Tammy Snow is serving as the acting Chief while a national search is being conducted. He said Chief Snow is committed to community engagement and each month a project is created which helps give back to the community. District III had the highest number of fires last month with four arsons and one dwelling fire. A 9/11 stair climb is scheduled at the Epic Center on Saturday, Sept. 9. Citizens will not be allowed to go inside the Epic Center but there will be a live video feed. Paul Davis (DAB) asked why the City is searching nationally for the Fire Chief when Tammy Snow is right here and more than qualified. Cindy Miles (DAB) wanted to know how to submit an idea to the Fire Department for their giving back projects. Lt. Misek said they can be submitted to any Captain or directly to Chief Snow. 1 District III Advisory Board Minutes for September 6, 2017 Police Report Officer Joshua Hayes, Patrol South 29 Beat, reported a decrease in auto larcernies, and said Patrol South as been having more IMPACT meetings recently. Cindy Miles asked if an arrest has been made yet in the Brewer case; Officer Hayes said he did not have information on that case. Action Taken: Receive and File PUBLIC AGENDA Scheduled Items: Council Member James Clendenin reported that Terry Brewster (former DAB member) passed away on Firday. He said Mr. Brewster had a heart of gold and will be missed. Action Taken: Receive and File NEW BUSINESS Westar Update Tim Richards, Customer and Community Relations Consultant, reported the utility is making an effort to have more public engagement. He provided extensive information on Westar, their service area and current projects. Board members asked several questions. Action Taken: Receive and File Updates/Issues/Reports BOARD AGENDA Council Member Clendenin reported on his trip to Oklahoma City with District II Council Member Pete Meitzner, the Mayor of Newton and the Mayor of Ponca City. They presented before the Oklahoma Legislature Transportation Committee. Action Taken: Receive and File Meeting adjourned. The next District III Advisory Board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., October 4, 2017, at the WATER Center, 101 E. Pawnee, Wichita, KS 67211.
