District V Advisory Board Meeting Minutes April 02, 2012 www.wichita.gov The District V Advisory Board Meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21, 2110 N. 135th West In attendance were eight (8) District Advisory Board members, three (3) staff and one (2) citizens with zero (0) signing in. Haught, WPD Mike Bell Bryan Frye WFD Dalton Glasscock Megan Buckmaster, Neighborhood Services Mike Greene Matt Hamm Mike Hill Kelly Watkins Members Absent Guests Dana Brown Joey Ellzey Jay Flinn Pat Ream Paul Truitt Kelly Watkins Order of Business Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Motion was made to approve the minutes from the March 05, 2012 meeting. Motion passed 6-0. Motion was made to approve the agenda for the April 02, 2012 meeting. Motion passed 6-0. Public Agenda 1. Scheduled items When to call 9-1-1, Sedgwick County Emergency Communications presented on the appropriateness of when to call 9-1-1 and when to contact the Police bureau offices or Community Police (non-emergency lines). Call 9-1-1 if: It is a medical emergency and you need an ambulance There is a crime in progress You witness suspicious activity You need the Fire Department dispatched SCEC is presenting to over 30 schools and community groups. There is an informational brochure available. CM Longwell commented that a resident was told to call 9-1-1 when reporting a large trailer on a residential street. Action: Receive and file. 2. Off Agenda items none Action: Receive and file. Staff Presentations 3. WPD/Community Police Report Officer B. Haught, WPD, reported on beats 16, 18, 19, and 199 and District V Neighborhoods.  16 Beat- no specific report  18 Beat- no specific report  19 Beat- no specific report  199 Beat- no specific report  OTHER: there is an increase in larcenies- 70% of class 1 incidents are larcenies. Except for 18 beat there is a decrease in auto thefts.  SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS: Traffic during construction. Juvenile Underage Drinking Group Education/Enforcement (JUDGE) Special Assignment April- June Action: Receive and file. 4. Wichita Fire Department Report WFD, reported on District V statistics and other WFD information. March fire reports: 0 fires in District V: $350,000 City wide fire loss damages. Starting fire hydrant inspections earlier this year WFD out in community more-especially doing building inspections. Frye asked what is WFD looking for during the building inspections? WFD responded: blocked exits, drop bars, working marked exits, occupancy loads, extension cords and working fire extinguisher equipment. CM Longwell asked for number of alarms in District V for March. WFD responded they would get back to him. Action: Receive and file. New Business No new business Board Agenda Board Updates and Issues CM Longwell: Construction at 21st and Maize has begun. Needed to start to be completed by the Holiday season. Hamm asked about the dirt at Kellogg and Maize-a timeframe for that development. Longwell responded the project is coming back to the City and Council to continue. They need to acquire more homes, want to build a brick wall a new bridge and improve infrastructure- all at the developers cost. ORDER OF BUSINESS Welcome from Councilmember Jeff Longwell Call to Order Approval of Minutes for March 05, 2012 Approval of Agenda for April 02, 2012 Public Agenda The public agenda allows members of the public to present issues not on the agenda to the Board. Each presentation is limited to five minutes unless extended by the Board. 1. Scheduled items When to call 9-1-1, Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Recommended Action: Receive and file. 2. Off Agenda items Any individual present that did not request to speak on the public agenda prior to the meeting may speak at this time.
