5. . New Central Library Architectural Services
The District V Advisory Board (DAB) considered a presentation made Steve Roberts, Library Board President
Pro Tem, on the New Central Library proposal.
Questions/ comments from District Advisory Board members:
1. If this moves forward will the funding for a West Wichita Police prescient be pushed
farther back?
2. How many visitors are there per year at the Westlink Library?
3. Has any thought been given about using a sales tax increase to help pay for the library?
4. What are the costs to improve the other branches?
5. What is the cost to maintain the current building and what would be the on-going costs to maintain a new
library?
Questions/ comments from the public:
1. Please prioritize the library and find a way to fund it.
2. The library is so much more than books, the public access to computers provides ways for
people to look for jobs, apply for jobs, gain skills, file for unemployment, etc.
3. The building is old, we need a new library. How about considering a naming sponsorship
like the County did with Intrust Bank Arena.
District V Minutes 3
July 01, 2013
The District Advisory Board recommended the City look at alternate revenue streams that could
include a year to 18 month sales tax not only for funding the library but for other capitol
improvement projects to be determined by City staff and could include a new Fine Arts
building, a new West side Police precinct and water infrastructure costs.
Action: The recommendation was approved 8-0
