District V Minutes 1 September 09, 2013 District V Advisory Board Meeting Minutes www.wichita.gov September 09, 2013 Wichita Fire Station #21 6:30 p.m. 2110 N. 135th St. W. The District V Advisory Board Meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21, 2110 N. 135th West. In attendance were ten (10) District Advisory Board members, five (5) staff and two (2) citizens with one (1) signing in. Members Present Staff Present Lauren Appenfeller Officer B. Wespi, WFD Bryan Frye Isaac Unruh, Cultural Services Mike Greene Megan Buckmaster, Neighborhood Services Mike Hill Jill Kerchen Phyllis Kuckleman Paul Truitt Members Absent Guests Councilmember Jeff Longwell none signed in Joey Ellzey Matt Hamm Troy Palmer Kelly Watkins Order of Business Welcome from Mike Hill The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Approval of Minutes for August 05, 2013 Motion was made to approve the minutes Motion passed 6-0. Approval of Agenda for September 09, 2013 Motion was made to approve the agenda. Motion passed 6-0. Public Agenda 1. Scheduled items: No scheduled items 2. Off Agenda items: District V Minutes 2 September 09, 2013 New Business 3. Street closures for race events District V Advisory Board (DAB) considered a presentation made by Isaac Unruh, Event Coordinator, with the Division of Cultural Arts regarding street closures for runs, walks and local marathons. He presented ideas such as new policies for race promoters to notify affected neighborhoods and businesses, an increase in volunteer requirements, developing a comprehensive calendar of events with street closure information, contacting media outlets for coverage and signage along major arterials listing street closure information in advance of the event. Mike Greene commented on the suggestions made and asked about the availability and cost of electronic signage. Bryan Frye asked about the current procedure to notify the public about street closures for events. Is it on the City website, can it be announced at DAB meetings? Mr. Unruh noted the comments made and will take them back to staff for review. Action: Provide Comments Staff Presentations 3. WPD/Community Police Report Officer B. Haught, WPD, reported on beats 16, 18, 19, and 199 and District V Neighborhoods.  16 Beat- no specific report  18 Beat- no specific report  19 Beat- no specific report.  199 Beat- no specific report Part 1 offenses (West Bureau) down 7.7% from 2012.  City wide warrant sweep- of the 17 pages at the start , it is down to 5.  West Bureau facebook page is up, as well as the North Bureau.  Celebrate Safe Communities Events- Tuesday, October 1st. Action: Receive and file. 4. Wichita Fire Department Report Captain S. Wespi, WFD reported on Fire Department incidents in District V and City wide.  August 2013- 0 fires reported in District V  WFD working on building, chimney and hydrant inspections. rd  15 new recruits started September 3 - 12 week program.  10 new fire trucks purchased to replace older and out of service trucks. Action: Receive and file. Board Agenda 6. Updates, Issues, and Reports DAB Members: District V Minutes 3 September 09, 2013  Bryan Frye reminded everyone about the Wagon Masters Chili Cook off on September 28th General Comments/ Announcements: Next Meeting: The next meeting for District Advisory Board V will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, November 04, 2013 at Fire Station, #21, located at 135th St W. and 21st St. N. Street Closures for Race Events Isaac Unruh, Event Manager for Century II, will present on the process for community engagement for the topic of street closures for walks, runs and marathons.
