5. Westside Service improvements
District V Advisory Board (DAB) considered a presentation made by Steve Spade, Director of Transit on
improvements to Transit service for the west side. Transit secured a grant to improve west side transit services.
The grant is good for three years. Several route changes, upgrades and additions were presented.
Mike Bell asked if there were boards detailing pick up times at each “stop”. Spade responded that the information
is available on the website and this is being considered as a future improvement.
Phyllis Kuckleman asked what would be the ‘stops” at New Market Square? Spade responded there would be
several along the 21st to 29th Maize road area. Kuckleman asked if the Country acres residents have been notified
of the service changes. Spade responded Transit is in the process of notifying them.
Bryan Frye asked if the grant will cover new routes, buses and benches. Spade responded it will cover new
routes, which are still being determined. Frye asked if there is a distance requirement for the pick-up service.
Spade responded that is still undetermined.
Mike Greene asked if the time frame for pickups on the west side really is workable. Spade responded this is why
we are engaging the public. Greene also asked how the riders will know their pick up times. Spade responded it
will be told to them once they “reserve’ their ride.
CM Longwell commented that these improvements are much needed and great news for westsiders. He asked if
covered “stops’ are a part of the plan. Spade responded if they determine they are needed along the route, then
yes. Longwell asked about tracking buses on smart phones. Spade replied you can do that now online. Michelle
Stroot replied Transit is working with IT on a phone App t\o track buses.
