The District V Advisory Board Meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21, 2110 N. 135th West Wichita,
KS 67235. In attendance were eight District Advisory Board members, three City staff and three members of the
public who signed in.

The meeting was called to order by Pro Tem, Mike Hill at 6:30 p.m.
Approval of Agenda
The agenda was approved as submitted. Motion passed: (8/0)
Approval of Minutes
The minutes for August 18, 2014 were corrected by removing Mike Green from the list of resigning members.

Public Agenda
1. Scheduled items:
Laura Meyers, Sedgwick Co. Emergency Communications, spoke to the DAB members regarding the
increasing accidental cellphone calls to 911. Last year the dispatch center received over 80,000 accidental calls.
Sedgwick Co. Emergency Communications as started the “Don’t Play around Lock It Down” campaign to bring
awareness. Laura also offered tours of the Emergency Communications building at 714 N. Main.
DAB? How was the response to the special phone number publicized to report non-emergency issues on the 4th of
July? A: On the 4th we received many calls on the special phone number which in turned freed up the 911 line to
address emergency dispatching calls.

3. Wichita Fire Department Report
Captain Frank Buck, WFD Station 21, gave a brief update on the activities at Station 21. A reported fire at the
Silver Springs Apartment Complex was due to careless smoking. The cigarette ignited an outdoor balcony
causing $2,000 worth of damage. Captain Buck also mention that daylight savings time will be changing and it’s
a good time to check the batteries in smoke alarms.

4. WPD/Community Police Report
Officer Brad Haught, WPD Patrol West, gave a brief update on the activities in Patrol West. Two block parties
in the Patrol West area have registered for the Celebrate Safe Communities event held on October 7th. Officer
Haught also reported that 70% of the larceny and auto break-in cases for Patrol West are coming from Beats 16,
19 and 199. A possible suspect has been identified in regards to the auto break-ins. In 19 Beat there has also been
two reports of mail theft, and possible others that home owner have not reported or are unaware of the theft. In the
Highland Springs addition there has been two residential burglars that are under investigation.
DAB? I have noticed students hanging out past their lunch time in the Northwest Shopping Center A: I will make
contact with the school resource officers and let them know of the issue.
DAB? What is the date for the block parties? A: Tuesday October 7th
