District V Advisory Board Meeting Minutes www.wichita.gov Wichita Fire Station #21 February 23, 2015 2110 N. 135th St. W. 6:30 p.m. Wichita, KS 67235 The District V Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21, 2110 N. 135th West Wichita, KS 67235. In attendance were four District Advisory Board members, three City staff and six members of the public who signed in. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved as submitted. Motion passed: (4/0) Approval of Minutes The minutes for January 26, 2015 were approved. Motion passed: (4/0) Public Agenda 1. Scheduled items: Mark Harmon, Stand Together Coalition, spoke to the DAB members opposing decriminalizing recreational marijuana use in the city of Wichita. Harmon explained that the youth of the city are at the highest risk and have developed a false perception that marijuana is safe and fun to use. Harmon mentioned that studies show that marijuana use: lowers IQ, impairs judgment, and increases crime among the youth. DAB? What is Stand Together Coalition asking from the DAB? A: We are outreaching and educating citizens to make informed decisions for our community. *****Action: Received and file Minutes 2 February 23, 2015 2. Off Agenda items: None *****Action: Received and file Staff Presentations 3. Wichita Fire Department Report Captain Mark Dewey, WFD, gave a brief update on the activities at Station 21. In January, there were two residential fires causing $190,000 in damages. Residents are advised not to place their BBQ grills up against the house where siding and overhead roofs can easily combust into flames. Residents are also advised to use fire safety with fireplace and to only burn appropriate material. *****Action: Receive and file. 4. Community Police Report Officer Bradley Haught, WPD, gave a brief update on the activities in Patrol West. In the month of February criminal activity is down by 25% in 16 Beat, 15.6% in 19 Beat, and 34.8% in 199 Beat compared to 2014 data. In 199 beat there have been several daytime residential burglaries that are being investigated. *****Action: Receive and file. Board Agenda 5. Updates, Issues, and Reports None to report. Neighborhood Reports DAB Members may report events/activities from the neighborhood/homeowners groups in their areas. *****Recommended Action: Receive and file. UPDATES FROM COUNCIL MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS The next DAB V meeting will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 ADJOURN
