The District V Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21, 2110 N. 135th West Wichita,
KS 67235. In attendance were eight District Advisory Board members, five City staff and 40 members of the
public who signed in.

2. Off Agenda items: Duane Bergkamp, 6602 Briarwood CT, spoke to the DAB members in regards to the need
maintains of the snow route for the City of Wichita. Mr. Bergkamp will email specific locations of concern to
better follow up on his request.

Staff Presentations
3. Wichita Fire Department
Report Captain Mark Dewey, WFD, gave a brief update on the activities at Station 2. There was a residential
fire that caused $150, 000 in damage. The cause of the fire has been reported to be faulty electrical shortage in a
bathroom exhaust fan that was left on for an extended period of time. In the next few weeks WFD will be
conducting is annual fire hydrant inspections. Residents are also encourage to check their CO2 detectors in their
homes to insure that they are calibrated and working correctly.
Public? Can the WFD test 10yr battery on detectors? A: I would suggest contacting the manufacture of the
product.
Public? Are their restriction on what can be burned in one’s yard? A: Yes, must be at least 10ft away from any
structure and can’t be any hazardous material.

4. Floodplain Map
Staff from Public Works and Utilities present the proposed FEMA Floodplain Map. In the presentation staff went
over the process of FEMA and how it will impact the FIRM layout. Staff recommended members of the public to
use the GIS mapping website to research specific address. There will also be four community meeting were
insurance experts will be available to address any questions for concerns home owners may have.

May 11th- Valley center Gymnasium, Time TBD
May 12th- WSU Meteroplex, Time TBD
May 13th- Sedgwick County Extensions Office , Time TBD
May 14th – Derby Library, Time TBD
Members of the public shared their questions and concerns in regards to the change in FEMA Floodplain Map.
