District V Advisory Board Meeting Minutes www.wichita.gov October 5, 2015 Wichita Fire Station #21 6:30 p.m. 2110 N. 135th St. W. The District V Advisory Board Meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21, 2110 N. 135th West. In attendance were Council Member Bryan Frye, 10 District Advisory Board members, three staff members and seven members of the public. Scheduled items: None 2. Off Agenda items: None *****Action: Receive and File District V Minutes 2 September 14, 2015 Staff Presentations 3. WPD/Community Police Report Officer Lori Kimrey, WPD, gave a brief update on the activities in Patrol West.  13 Auto thefts (9 in the 6700 – 6800 W. Par Lane area, apartments – same area tags are being stolen off of cars)  22 Larceny to auto – wallets, guns, purses, garage door openers  4 Robberies o 1 known suspect o 1 convenience store o 1 purse taken (700 N. Ridge Rd.)  6 Residential burglaries o 1 known suspect o 1 garage door left open  1 Non-residential burglary – drug store Officer Kimrey reported they are seeing an increase in road rage incidents where guns are being pointed at people who have been cutoff in traffic. She reported that this could possibly be caused by the new conceal carry laws. Also, she reported of two individuals who were caught at Best Buy trying to make purchases with fraudulent credit cards in which the name on the credit card matched their ID’s but the magnetic strip/billing information had been changed to numerous victims across the United States. *****Action: Receive and file. 4. Wichita Fire Department Report Captain Mike Malter, WFD, gave a brief update on the activities for Fire Station 21during July. The fire crews responded to a shed fire in the 400 block of south Garst. The determined cause was a juvenile playing with matches. The fire caused an estimated $5,000 in damage. Captain Malter also reported that this week is Fire Prevention Week and there are numerous activities planned including an event at the zoo for area 5th graders. He encouraged all to remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. *****Action: Receive and file. 5. Public Works Report Council Member Bryan Frye, gave update on Public Works projects within the district.  13th between 119th and 135th – Design approval is going before City Council on Oct. 66, 2016. Possible 2019 CIP budget item.  Central & Westlink – to correct negative flow of storm water.  37th Street between Maize Rd. and 119th – Partnership between the City, Sedgwick County and the City of Maize, to pave the unpaved section of 37th Street.  Tyler Road between 29th and 37th – expansion is complete.  Maize Road around Maize South campus access road – Developer is revising plans to keep the access road open. Maize Rd. will also be restriped to include dedicated turn lanes. District V Minutes 3 September 14, 2015 Board Agenda 6. Updates, Issues, and Reports Council Member Bryan Frye, gave a brief update on the Buffalo Park improvements which will include a new shelter, new restrooms, a splash park and a bicycle pump course. It is on the City Council’s consent agenda for Oct. 6th. Two bids came in higher than expected at $1.6 million. Howerver, a federal grant has been awarded for $250,000. Ground breaking possibly this fall with opening by summer 2016. Council Member Bryan Frye also reported he has been working with officials from Maize USD 265 to monitor growth projections within northwest Wichita to project for future school needs. DAB?: Are there any plans to increase CP efforts on Halloween since it falls on a Saturday night. A: Laura Rainwater will follow-up with Capt. Yarberry, WPD, and email DAB members his response. DAB?: Are there any plans to finish improvements along 135th? A: In CIP for a later date, possibly 2020. General Comments/ Announcements: Next Meeting: Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Meeting was moved so it would not coincide with the Wichita Metro Chamber’s annual dinner featuring guest speaker, Charles Koch. A majority of the DAB V members will be attending the dinner.
