The District V Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21 located at 2110 N. 135th
St W., Wichita, KS 67235.

Questions concerning the lack of improvements to 13th Street, including widening to five lanes and improving
drainage.

Gave history of design stages – federal funds paid for current pavement and bridge
2008 residential development stopped
The five-lane design was based on development estimates prior to the 2008 crash

2010 traffic counts and future estimates don’t warrant a five-lane design
$766,000 that has been spent includes design changes to go from five lane to three lane roadway
as well as the design and installation of the traffic signal at 119th Street and 13th
A meeting will be set up with interested residents and City engineers

Community Police Report: Community Police Officer, Charley Davidson, reported.
No major crime trends occurring in West Bureau
The increase in larcenies at the NW YMCA has stopped
Reminded citizens to keep cars locked and remove valuables
DAB ?: Has there been an increase in home burglaries?
A: Not at this time. But with warmer weather, an increase in activity can be expected.

Fire Department Report: Capt. Ken Ast, reported
Burn ban still in effect – includes chimineas and outdoor firepits
Two major fires occurred within District V; One in Reflection Ridge and one at Silver Springs
Apartments. Both caused by carelessly disposing of cigarettes

Park and Recreation Department Report: Troy Houtman, Director of Park s & Recreation, reported
Buffalo Park – Opening around Memorial Day. Ribbon cutting scheduled for Thursday, May 26, at
10:30am
McAdams Park – New Baseball fields opening soon for League 42. This is the first time artificial turf has
been used on any Wichita parks baseball fields
Bicycle trail that extends out to Goddard is nearly complete
Aquatics Master Plan presented to City Council at a workshop
$18 Million
Improve three pools
Close five pools and replace with aquatic playgrounds
Harvest Pool to remain open with improvements schedule for 2023
Golf App available for all five City courses
DAB ?: Are maps available on the website for the new bike paths?
A: Not yet. Staff is working on a dashboard to show all projects with status and renderings

Technology Impact Survey – available online – to discover the wants and needs of the community
Summer Teen Volunteer Program – applications now being accepted for grades 8-12
Young Artists Exhibits – 490 pieces of art on display at the central and branch locations. Reception being
held at Westlink Branch on Thursday, April 14, at 6:30pm
Apps for Booklovers at Westlink on Wednesday, April 6
Buying and Selling Online workshop at Westlink on Tuesday, April 12
Coloring for the Fun of It – Coloring for adults – Second Wednesday of every month at Westlink.

Interactive GIS Overlay Map showing all projects and statuses being worked on by City staff
34th & Maize Rd – New connector road will be installed after school is out. Bid opening for new signal is
this Friday, April 8. Restripe pavement markings for five lanes of traffic
Woodchuck Bike Path – nearly finished. Possible ribbon cutting soon
Redbud Bike Path – Dedication Ceremony on May 7 at 11:30am

West Street on-ramps closed though summer
Completion – Summer 2019

KDOT – Bridge replacement along 235 north of Zoo Blvd has commenced
Two bridges at 21st Street
One bridge at 25th Street
Two bridges at 29th Street
Estimated completion by end of 2017
Kellogg & Webb – left turns have been restricted in three directions. East-bound Kellogg to north-bound
Webb remains open
Next phase of Kellogg east to K96 to begin in August
Tyler & 2nd Street – in front of Wilbur Middle School – design phase with traffic signal
Out-sourced Pavement Preservation Program (OP3) – 40 year model to increase pavement life
