Page |1 District V Advisory Board Minutes September 5, 2017 www.wichita.gov The District V Advisory Board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #21, located at 2110 N. 135th St. W, Wichita, KS 67235. CM Frye:  Sept. 5 Council meeting – approved partial funding of the $6 million from the Hyatt proceeds being put back into City improvements  District 1: Neighborhood projects and Dunbar Theater  District 2: New hanger for Doc and parking lot improvements to Harrison Park  District 3: Neighborhood grants and additional neighborhood inspector  District 4: Pawnee Prairie Park improvements  District 5: Pracht Wetlands  District 6: Non-committed  Century II – No rush. No Decision – looking at many options  Funding Police Staffing Study for years two and three Unruh: Delano Fall Festival – October 6-8 Page |2 Public Agenda Items 2. None Off-Agenda Items 3. None Staff Reports 4. Fire Department Report: Firefighter Paul Gonzalez, reported.  One fire in District 5 – Accidental  10 fires city-wide - $340,000 in damage  Community involvement/outreach – each station to get involved in some way one time per month  Building Bridges through Books – WFD & WPD working together to deliver books to Wichita youth 5. Community Police Report: No report 6. Park and Recreation Department Report: David McGuire, Park & Rec, reported.  Thank you to Council for Park support from the Hyatt proceeds  Pracht Wetland Award - American Society of Landscape Architects Master Planning Award  Open Streets ICT – Sept. 24  Redbarn Park Improvements to begin in next 30 days  Sunrise/sunset kayaking and paddleboarding on the River – huge success – waiting listed  Splash parks will be shut down in the next 60 days  Fall programming underway 7. Libraries Report: Tracie Partridge, Westlink Branch Senior Librarian, reported.  Big Read – Oct. 1-Nov. 15: The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir  Two-part memoir writing workshop at Westlink  Sept. 9 – Local author meet & greet at Central Library  Sept 21-23 – Used book sale at Central Library  Westlink Branch programs  Sept. 7 – Food Trucks 101  Sept. 12 – College education savings strategies  Sept. 18 – Storytimes resume  Sept. 26 – Security for your computer 8. Public Works Report: CM Frye reported.  Kellogg – three lanes open westbound  W. Kellogg/I235 ahead of schedule  Bids opened and work awarded for Tyler Road improvements. Crosswalk to Wilbur Middle School will remain open during entire project  2nd Street Sidewalk, Country Acres to Ridge Rd. – Construction to begin soon  Hoover/Zoo design is currently under design by Transystems Action Taken: Motion made to receive and file all staff reports. Updates, Issues and Reports Opportunity is provided for the Council Member and the District Advisory Board members to report any activities, events, or concerns in the neighborhoods and/or Council District. PUBLIC AGENDA This portion of the agenda provides an opportunity for citizens to present issues that are not part of the regular agenda for the meeting. There is a five minute time limit for each speaker. 1. Scheduled items: Recommended Action: Receive and file 2. Off-agenda items: Any individual present that did not request to speak on the public agenda prior to the meeting may speak at this time. Recommended Action: Receive and file STAFF PRESENTATIONS 3. Fire Department Report Staff will give a brief report on District V issues, problems and events. 4. Community Police Report Community Police Officers will give a brief report on District V issues, problems and events. 5. Park and Recreation Department Report Staff will provide update for parks in District V and report on other activities taking place across the city. 6. Wichita Public Library Report Tracie Partridge, Westlink Branch Senior Librarian, will report on events and programs at the Westlink Branch. 7. Public Works Report Public Works Engineering will give an update on District V projects.
