PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE AND HUMAN RESOURCES JOINT MEETING November 9, 2017 A joint meeting of the Public Safety Committee and Human Resources Committee was held this date beginning at 4:35 p.m., at 75 Calhoun Street, Third Floor, Human Resources Training Room. Notice of this meeting was sent to all local news media. PRESENT Councilmember Kathleen Wilson, Chair of Public Safety, Councilmember White, Vice-Chair of Human Resources, Councilmember Lewis, Vice-Chair of Public Safety, Councilmember Wagner, Councilmember Shahid, and Councilmember Moody Staff: Interim Chief Tippett, Susan Herdina, Kay Cross, Amy Wharton, and Bethany Whitaker, Council Secretary The meeting was opened with a moment of silence provided by Chairwoman Wilson. Briefing on Firefighter Pay Plan Councilmember White stated that because this was an issue that was specific to Human Resources and personnel, they needed to go into executive session because of the confidential nature of the information. On the motion of Councilmember White, seconded by Councilmember Moody, the Committee voted unanimously to go into executive session at 4:36 p.m. On the motion of Councilmember Moody, seconded by Councilmember Wagner, the Committee voted unanimously to come out of executive session at 6:02 p.m. No action was taken. Miscellaneous Business Councilmember Shahid asked when the first reading of the budget was. Ms. Wharton stated she had to have the draft budget to them by November 21, 2017 so they were trying to have another budget workshop on November 20, 2017. Councilmember Moody said he had a conversation with Mayor Tecklenburg that morning and he asked if they could move the first meeting in December to the 11th. It was stated that had been done. Councilmember Moody said he was fine with that and it might give them a little more time. Councilmember Shahid said they would then meet on December 19, so they would be meeting two consecutive weeks.
