IV. MAYOR'S TASK FORCE REPORT
JJ Musgrove was asked to distinguish between meetings of the task force and
meetings of the non-profit committee. He said the main difference is the type of
business discussed in each meeting. For instance, specifics of any fundraising
project would be conducted only during non-profit committee meetings and city
staff does not attend those meetings; the treasurer’s report could be done in
either meeting; and agendas and minutes for the task force need to be posted
timely on the city’s website, which will be done by city staff. In addition,
Sunshine Laws would be in effect for task force meetings.
Appreciation was extended to Musgrove for his good work.

given by Moore. She said Commander Edgerton had phoned and was very
appreciative of the contributions received from Columbia Missouri; notes will be
written before the crew deploys. He also informed her that the Navy has changed
its former decision and will finance the purchase of exercise equipment for crew
members, so the money raised will be used in other ways to increase morale
during deployment.

Crew Relations
Due to the Navy providing support for the crew’s exercise equipment, it was
decided by Commander Edgerton to fund “half-way night” by providing trivia
about their Namesake City with contributions and prizes. Appreciation for this
support was expressed by the crew. Members of the Family Readiness Group
were very thankful for the donation of half-way boxes. Koukola was recognized
for the donation of Mizzou playing cards; other contributions included mementos
showcasing Columbia, Flat Branch Pub, and Mizzou.
Moore reported on the recent presentation of the ‘party in a box’ sent by
Commander Edgerton, officers, and crew of the USS Columbia to the Mizzou
College of Engineering, as well as the presentation of a plaque to the MU Athletic
Department; in addition to Moore and Robert Ross, Captain Kevin King, Director,
MU Naval ROTC, Gary Link, MU Athletic Department Assistant Athletic Director,
and Wren Baker, MU Athletic Department Deputy Director, attended. She said the
welcome received from the new leaders at Mizzou Athletics was very warm and
enthusiastic, and denoted future support. Even though the event was not covered
by the press, the outcome exceeded expectations. Pictures from both
presentations were passed around for all to see.
VII. GENERAL COMMENTS BY PUBLIC, MEMBERS AND STAFF
