issues at the previous premise, including human trafficking, drug trafficking, and
shootings in the area. He added there are 2 daycares and a church within 300 ft of the
premises.
Sara Sterling 9400 W Melvina St stated the owner of the property will still be involved
and the operated it previously and she is concerned about that. She added that the
previous owner used to let people stay in the bar after bar close. She added the
previous owner used to let people smoke in the premises. She added that there were 2

shootings in 2017 and 2018.

Jarrell Jones 1423 N 14th St stated there have been several issues at the previous
premises. He stated the building being vacant is a problem too. He stated the
applicant shouldn't be held responsible for what the previous owner did. He stated he is
on a pool league of the previous premises.
Nole Garcia 5632 N 27th St stated she worked at the previous premises for 9 years
and most of the block is commercial so there aren't a lot of residents. She added that
the applicant deserves a chance to prove herself.
Ald. Dodd stated she has met with neighbors and the premises is 300 ft from a
daycare center. She stated that something doesn't sound right and there seems to be
a relationship where the previous owner will be involved in the business.

The applicant stated she wants to open a grocery store.
Appearing with the applicant:
Atty. Emil Obviagele stated the premises used to be a tavern and the applicant is
converted it to a grocery store with a deli and fresh fruits and vegetables. He stated
that because of the construction cost you need high margin items like beer and wine
to help cover the costs. He stated the applicant is withdrawing the liquor application
and she will meet with Ald. Rainey.
Individual also present:
Sherman Morton 7th District Legislative Assistant stated Ald. Rainey is in support of
the food license and opposed to the liquor license. He added that Ald. Rainey doesn't
want to meet with the applicant regarding liquor because he is opposed to it. He stated
Ald. Rainey is not interested in adding more liquor to the community, but he is in favor
of fresh fruits and vegetables. He added that the plan of operation doesn't show dairy,
poultry, fish, meats, vegetables, or produce.

Mabel Lamb 2803 N Sherman Blvd, Executive Director of the Sherman Park
Community Association stated she does not support additional liquor licenses in the
area.
Ald. Coggs stated she doesn't buy the argument that you need to sell alcohol to make
money. She stated that there are businesses in her district that have been able to be
successful without alcohol.
Ald. Lewis stated she has a similar issue with locations in her district.

Milwaukee Center (southwest corner of E. Kilbourn Ave. and N. Water St.) Parking tickets must be
validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall.
Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code are required to
register with the City Clerk's License Division. Lobbyists appearing before a Common Council
