The meeting was called to order at 4:04 PM

2. Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes
Mr. Flores moved approval of the minutes from the meeting of March 8, 2016,
seconded by Ms. Cubias. There were no objections.
3. Public Art Subcommittee Report
Ms. Morris gave the report of the Public Art Subcommittee. The Subcommittee
recommends funding the following projects $11,000 for the Haggerty project, $7,500
for the friends of Hank Aaron State Trail, and $3,750 for the Black Cat Alley project
for the Milwaukee artists. Ms. Morris moved to fund the aforementioned projects,
seconded by Ms. Harpole. There were no objections.
She added Churchill Caruthers from the 5 Points Neighborhood Association gave a
presentation regarding making a public space for items from the Artery and
neighborhood architecture from razed buildings.
Ms. Morris moved that the Walker's Point Center for the Arts is now the fiscal
receiver for the Temporary Resurfacing project that was awarded $2,500 from the
New Work Fund. There were no objections.
4. Presentation: "Art Barge" by Antonio Furguiele
The presentation did not take place.

5. Grants Update
Sally Witte stated 50 grant applications were received, with 47 eligible. The
orientation was held April 7th and the public review will be held May 5th. The review
committee contains members from the Arts Board and the public.
6. Vote on Artist of the Year Award Rule:
Mr. Flores moved to create the rule that Artist of the Year nominees must be
residents of the City of Milwaukee, seconded by Ms. Balestreri. There were no
objections.
7. Vote on 2016 Friends of the Arts Award
Mr. Flores nominated Thallis Hoyt Drake, a violinist who founded Early Music Now
concert series in 1986. She served as it's Executive director until 2001 and was the
Executive Administrator of the Civic Music Association for almost 20 years. She has
also served on the boards of numerous arts organizations.
Ms. Morris nominated Andy Nunemaker, the Chair of the Board of Directors for the
Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, as well as a board member of the Milwaukee Art
Museum and the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. He has also served on the
boards of the Milwaukee Film Festival, the Haggerty Museum of Art, the Wisconsin
Center District, and the Contemporary Art Society.
Each nominee received 12 votes. The 2016 Friends of the Arts are Thallis Hoyt
Drake and Andy Nunemaker.

Limited parking for persons attending meetings in City Hall is available at reduced rates (5 hour limit)
at the Milwaukee Center on the southwest corner of East Kilbourn and North Water Street. Parking
tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall.
Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances are
required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division. Registered lobbyists appearing
before a Common Council committee are required to identify themselves as such. More information is
