Roll call and approval of previous meeting minutes. Ms. Wolfe moved, seconded by Ms. Klose to approve minutes of the January 14, 2014 meeting. There were no objections. 2. Public Art Conservation Fund -- Review of Applications Ms. Morris began a discussion of an application made by the Milwaukee Police Department to repair a Narendra Patel statue outside of the District 6 headquarters at 3006 S 27th St. The application requests matching funds of $2,000 for conservation of the statue. The statue will be fixed and re-installed in a manner that allows for easier maintenance. Ms. Morris moved to recommend approval to the Milwaukee Arts Board , seconded by Mr. Robison. There were no objections. 3. New Work Fund -- Update New Work Fund applications are due on February 28th. Ms. Morris discussed meeting on March 11th before the regular Milwaukee Arts Board meeting to review the applications. Presentations could then be made at the April meeting. 4. DCD and Public Art Related Activities Ms. Witte had four items from DCD to discuss: -The resolution to relocate the General Douglas MacArthur statue was passed by the Common Council. Ms. Witte mentioned that members may want to be involved in the celebration in June. -An article in the Milwaukee Business Journal states the city is looking for ideas to revitalize the parking lot at 4th St and Wisconsin Ave. The Creative Alliance is helping to generate ideas and gather public opinion. City of Milwaukee Page 1 MILWAUKEE ARTS BOARD PUBLIC Meeting Minutes February 11, 2014 ART SUBCOMMITTEE -DCD has produced a vacant lot handbook with revitalization possibilities for citizens. Some ideas could be public art related. -Century City has chosen a design for their public art commission competition. They will be keeping the landscaping portion, but are reopening the competition for a sculpture. The manager of the project has asked if the Arts Board could be involved in helping to design the process. She would like to attend the April meeting. 5. New Business Ms. Morris stated that there will be two art projects for the Menomonee Valley along the Hank Aaron State Trail. She suggested that members may want to have the project leaders come to a meeting to discuss progress. Ms. Morris explained that MMSD is interested in sites for murals along rivers and the lake. She encouraged members to consider ideas for placement of the murals. Locations of public art are listed on the Smithsonian website and Wikipedia . Ms. Morris encouraged members to contact her if they notice an update may be needed. Updates to Wikipedia require an article as a source .
