MEETING MINUTES
BOH Members Present: Dr. Anthony Storace
Dr. Ajay Sharma

The Board was given the meeting Agenda, monthly departmental reports, current Board of Health
budget and March 2011 BOH Meeting Minutes.
Meeting called to order at 12:40 p.m. by Dr. Storace - Quorum was met (Formal Meeting)
1. Request to vote on the March 2011 BOH Minutes.

Department Reports
Community Health – Presented by Bobbie Bagley
Communicable Diseases
o TB
One active case in Nashua and one in Amherst
o STD
Nine to ten people coming into the clinic
o Vaccinations
Hep A & B
o Not much happening with Lead.
GI cluster at a long term care facility – 19 cases investigated
Two Suspicious powder incidents occurred at the courthouse
o Packages delivered to courthouse came in from prison
o Turned out to be nothing dangerous and was not a hazard
o After action planning on these incidents went well
Lyme Disease Reports – Bobbie will continue to give these reports to the BOH members with
last year‟s and this year‟s numbers
Busy with training, meetings, activities, community education events, health fair
Dr. Sharma asked for information on cases of strep at schools
o Bobbie shared her information.
Grants/Child Care – Chris Lister presented
Week of the Young child – April 10th – 16th
Grants
o Board of Aldermen passed Immunization Program funding, which over a three year
period equals $198,000
o TB – STD/HIV Grants were read last night for the first time
This will be taken it up at the April 25th BOA Meeting.
Final approval will be in May
Emergency Preparedness – Kerran Vigroux presented for Patty Crooker
Focus Groups from CHA
o Great turn out from both the Provider Group and Key Leader Group
o Both groups chose the priority of Obesity as the focus of the Community Health
Improvement Plan.
o Ashley, Heidi and Bobbie worked with UNH students and they will be helping to write a
policy about Environmental Health referencing Asthma for the Community Health
Assessment
o EP was also involved in the „white powder‟ incident at the courthouse in Nashua.
o Patty and Ashley were involved in training around the National Outbreak Reporting
System

o Carol Totzkay from DHHS met with Emergency Management directors that fall under
our region and discussed processes for functional needs
Feedback from the directors was that we work well together as a region
State is pleased with what we are doing.
o We posted a part-time position with the City for a Warehouse Coordinator
Eleven resumes were received specifically for this position, and we may look at
others from part-time summer positions that were on file if needed.
We will fill this position as soon as possible, as the position is good only through
June 2011
This person will work on the trailers and medical supplies in our warehouse
Health Education – Presented by Corinn Dembkoski
Health Education
o National Public Health Week
Twelve events were planned, and kick off took place in the City Hall Rotunda
on Monday, April 4th
The week of events ended with a 5K Race on Sunday, April 10th
The week was well advertised
Table tents, posters, WSMN, etc.
Great relationship with the community partners
o Produced a hand washing video with Patty and Ashley, which will be available this
week
Tobacco
o “Kick Butts Day” at Nashua High North was held on March 23rd
Did a presentation and students developed a story board.
Dr. Storace suggested that the story board be available on Channel 16 using
the Nashua Cable Studio.
o Worked with Cynthia Day Family Center and partnered with a nurse.
Spoke to the women at the center regarding tobacco/smoking
Purchased Wal-Mart gift cards for the women in the program
o Spent last week at U Mass Worcester and was trained in the Tobacco Treatment
Certification Program.
After putting in volunteer hours, Corinn will be able to counsel people in this
area
Environmental Health – Heidi Peek presented
Inspections continue
Had two complaints about milk at a local food store, but only one complaint met criteria for
further investigation.
o Initial possibility of tampering, but it was ruled out
Mobil vendor issues continue
o Developing a check list of requirements and a specific application as well
This month‟s report includes two months of food sampling, and all were within acceptable limits
Bed Bud complaints are still being received
Quite a few foster home inspections in March
Attended follow-up meetings for the Norovirus outbreak

Rabies
o A woman reported a bat was found in her laundry. The bat tested positive for rabies. She
was okay; however, her dog was boostered, examined and quarantined.
Listing sub-division plans under the septic section and sub-division approval
o Staff is being trained on septic approval
o Partnering in the field
o Listed demolitions as well
o Single solid waste hauler license
We are sharing information with the land-fill
Hookset waste water plastic disks found in the Merrimack River
o We posted some of the DES information in areas along the river used by people
o Hookset said they will continue surveying the river as well
Kerosene incident in mobile home
DES is taking care of this.
Mediation – Bob Mack presented for Sandy Mulcahy
Sandy had a number of committee meetings and events this month, and participated in EP and
DBHRT activities
Several Family and marital mediations
Waiting to see if incentive grant will be available.
Welfare - Bob Mack presented
The number of people requesting assistance is about the same as last year at this time.
We are seeing a good number of homeless people, and we are working closely with shelters and
homeless outreach on this.
We have been referring people to the fuel assistance program, which will conclude at the end of
April
Only have used about half of the General Assistance dollars.
Closely monitoring the budget situation at the State and how it will affect Health and Human
Services, and Welfare.
o Discussions were held on how reductions and eliminations of funding will affect such
things as mental health, STDs, etc.
o We need to look into contingency plans, including helping people with their meds in
order to avoid serious situations.
