MEETING MINUTES
BOH Members Present: Dr. Anthony Storace, Dr. Ajay Sharma
Aldermen Present: Lori Wilshire
Staff Present: Kerran Vigroux, Heidi Peek, Patty Crooker, Ashley Conley, Bob Mack,
Victoria Alabi, Corinn Dembkoski, Barbara Scacco
Prior to the meeting, Patricia Piecuch, Deputy City Clerk for the City of Nashua, swore in the BOH
Members for 2012 and 2013.
Informal meeting called to order at 12:37 p.m. by Dr. Storace; formal meeting called to order at 12:50
p.m.
1. Vote on the December 15, 2011 meeting Minutes:
a. Motion presented by Dr. Storace to approve the December 15, 2011 Minutes

Department Reports
Community Health – Presented by Kerran Vigroux for Nancy Seskes
o There were 23 communicable diseases for the month of December
o Immunizations were down for the month
o Safe Choices began its 2nd cycle; closed out one group and did 30 day and 60 day
evaluations on those people who participated
Moved „Outreach‟ program to the Mediation Suite on the first floor
Al Matkowsky and Luis Porres now have offices in this area as well as a
conference room, which will be a more comfortable area for the Safety
Counts clients.
o Chris is going through the private schools for immunization updates.
o Waiting for Governor and Council approval for the Healthy Homes Grant.
We are going to go ahead with the Kick-Off on January 30th.
Victoria Alabi and Heidi Peek are leads for this.
Health Education and Tobacco – Presented by Corinn Dembkoski
Health Education
o Working on CHIP, Healthy Homes and Incident Response Team
o Collaborating with Patty Crooker to expand services in the region
Met with EP Staff to discuss regional work and media advisory group
o Planning a workshop with H.E.A.R.T.S. peer support group program
o Attended the Greater Nashua Healthy Community Collaborative planning meeting
o Finalizing brochure for the Division
Tobacco Prevention and Control
o Webinar “Helping Smokers Quit: Tobacco Cessation Coverage 2011”
o Met with the Nashua Prevention Coalition
o Created and purchased online and print ads for the Nashua Telegraph
Encouraged smokers to quit with the start of the New Year
Environmental Health – Heidi Peek and Victoria Alabi presented
Heidi
o Meredith Lyons resigned to pursue her career in education
Her position will be posted soon
o Food Sampling
We recently had three samples of coleslaw with elevated bacteria levels.
After watching the staff make it, and speaking with the chef, we are
confident that this issue has been solved
We are continuing to work with the manager

o Septic
Meredith Lyons had put together an approval handbook, as well as having trained
the other inspectors on septic approvals.
Heidi is now filling in on septic issues
Dealing with Community Development on a septic issue where work had already
begun and it was discovered there was no updated septic plan
Foundation added but a Stop Work Order has been issued
o Last Friday we suspended a food license due to on-going leaking issues in the basement
They have not yet re-opened or contacted a plumber
Victoria
o MRSA Education
This program is going quite well
We gave a presentation at Kimball High in Litchfield
Currently coordinating a presentation for childcare providers
Worked on a toolkit for the schools
o Healthy Homes
Our first meeting was held in December.
We will hold the kick-off meeting on Monday, January 30th
Our overall goal is to bring together stakeholders interested in improving healthy
homes issues in the Nashua region through a strategic planning process
o Met with Ledge Street School Staff, Community Development and other stakeholders to
develop a community garden at the school.
Will look into grants and funding opportunities to support this initiative.
Emergency Preparedness – Patty Crooker and Ashley Conley presented
Patty Crooker
o Technical Assistance Review for 2nd TAR – February 6, 2012
o Improvement plans are in place for the October 2011 storm.
o New partnership with Rivier College
Service and Learning partnership
Met with them about sharing services and opportunities that will benefit each
other.
Ashley Conley
o Flu season is starting and the State saw a few cases, but still low
o CHIP – Planning Group meeting was held on December 8th with 26 organizations
participating
Finalized Mission Statement
Conference will be held on June 20th – save the date
During our next meeting we will be selecting health priorities
Welfare - Bob Mack presented
The month of December was similar to the previous year.
Contacts are down a little

Interviews are down
Assistance is up slightly
Vouchers are down for shelter and medical
Assisted 11 families and referred 3 families to public shelter and hotels
Provided toys to Toys for Tots, assisting 400
o The ladies in the Welfare Department deserve credit for their hard work, along with
people from Parks & Recreation who picked up the toys.
o We received extra gifts after the holidays and gave them to local non-profit agencies to
be used throughout the year as birthday presents, etc.
Open Discussion
o Lori Wilshire commended the group for their hard work on CHIP.
o This month‟s NALBOH book references CHIP
o Invitation going out shortly for the key leaders meeting at St. Joseph‟s Hospital on
January 27th from 2 – 4 p.m. Dr. Storace will be out of the state; however, he will ask Dr.
Klementowicz to attend in his place.
