City of Nashua Division of Public Health & Community Services 18 Mulberry Street, Nashua, NH 03060 BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING February 13, 2013, 2013 12:30 PM 18 Mulberry Street, 2nd floor Nashua, NH 03060 MEETING MINUTES BOH Members Present: Dr. Anthony Storace Dr. Peter Klementowicz Dr. Ajay Sharma Aldermen Present: Lori Wilshire Staff Present: Heidi Peek, Bob Mack, Christine Villeneuve, Patty Crooker, Ashley Conley Formal Meeting was called to order at 12:43 p.m. The Community Health Improvement Plan was given to: Dr. Anthony Storace, Dr. Ajay Sharma, Dr. Peter Klementowicz, Lori Wilshire, Bob Mack, Heidi Peek, Christine Villeneuve and Patty Crooker The Board members were given copies of the February 2013 Meeting Agenda, January 2013 Department Reports and the January 2013 BOH Meeting Minutes. 1. Vote on acceptance of the January 2013 meeting Minutes: a. Motion made by Dr. Storace to accept the January 2013 Minutes b. Motion accepted by Dr. Sharma c. Seconded by Dr. Klementowicz 1 Department Reports Community Health – Christine Villeneuve presented:  Reviewed communicable disease numbers  Immunizations o Extra clinic hours were held for the flu vaccine o People are asking for the shingles vaccine  Providers’ offices are telling them to come to the DPHCS for this vaccine, but if they have insurance they are not eligible to receive the vaccine here at the Public Health Clinic.  The STD Clinic opens February 14th; a nurse practitioner will be on site.  The Outreach Van has been repaired with a new roof.  We are partnering with nursing schools and students are shadowing the Public Health nurses.  Dr. Storace: Recommends asking the high school nursing students to get involved in Public Health Clinics  Outreach was held with St. Louis Church  Flu Season seems to be coming to an end with fewer cases being reported. Emergency Preparedness – Patty Crooker presented:  Alignment of Public Health Emergency Preparedness Grant and Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services Grant proposals are due by March 4, 2013 o Working on merging the two programs  Hazard Vulnerability Analysis o There will be three meetings with partners to identify various hazards in the Community and to the Public Health infrastructure. Health Education and Tobacco – Presented by Ashley Conley in Corinn Dembkoski’s absence:  Photovoice Project o Partnered with Nashua PAL to implement a Photovoice Project to address tobacco and alcohol use in the Community. o Photovoice is a process by which youth capture and record their life experiences and community through photography and stories.  Nashua Prevention Coalition o The Coalition is going to reapply for the Drug-Free Communities Grant. Environmental Health – Heidi Peek presented  Staff is giving presentations on food safety to establishments. o Language can be a challenge when doing the presentations  Emergency spray permit was completed and forwarded to vendor, Dragon Mosquito, for processing. 2  Tabletop exercise was held with EHD, CHD and CS on a food borne outbreak o Good networking and discussion  Attended a self-inspecting meeting where they talked about Kosher markets; the FDA talked about the education and food processing at these facilities. Welfare - Bob Mack presented:  Increase in amount issued for January 2013 from 2012, but the way vouchers are issued and paid has changed since last year so there may be slight changes to these numbers once all of the vouchers have been returned for payment. o $53,002.27 given o 62% received aid o 10 families and 1 individual received emergency motel shelter. Community Health Improvement Plan and Grants– Presented by Ashley Conley in Beverly Doolan’s absence:  CHIP is available and online  Workgroups are conducting forums Christine – getting calls from refugee organizations about vaccines, but since the refugees have Medicaid, they don’t quality for vaccines from CHD. She wanted the BOH to know that this is an issue. She also mentioned that some Bhutanese refugees will be coming. Bob – need to work with International Institute to help them and assist them with educating their clients about accessing services. Dr. Storace – as a country, we can’t just bring refugees over and not assist them without having a good experience and the tools to move forward. Patty – Lutheran Social Services has stated that 250 refugees are coming to NH with an estimated 120 possibly coming to Nashua. Motion to Adjourn by Dr. Storace Seconded by Dr. Sharma Meeting ended at 1:33 p.m. Public Comments - None In accordance with the 2013 Board of Health Meeting Schedule, the next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
