NASHUA ETV COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, September 9, 2014 Berard Masse Administration Building A regular, monthly meeting of the Nashua School District Nashua ETV Committee was held Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 10:00 am. The meeting was held at the Berard Masse Administration Building in Conference Room 1. Chair Stacy Hynes, Director, Grants and Community Development, presided; Dana Naas, Secretary, Grants and Community Development, recorded. Committee members present: Cherrie Fulton Nashua School District Jenn Hosking Nashua Public Library Mary Kirkwood Nashua Catholic Regional Jr High School Theresa Lucier Bishop Guertin High School Pete Johnson Nashua ETV Administrator Roll Call: Stacy opened the meeting at 10:05 am and performed roll call. Membership: Welcome Cherrie Fulton, Title I Director: Stacy introduced new member, Cherrie Fulton, to the committee. Cherrie is Director of the five Title I schools in Nashua, along with the preschool for 4-year-olds. Cherrie, in her second year in the position of Title I Director, gave a brief description of her work with the schools and preschool. Cherrie’s office is located at the preschool. Cherrie said she hopes to publicize the quality preschool program. The program currently has 45 children. The summer preschool program had 30 children. Stacy said all students attending the preschool live in neighborhoods of the five Title I elementary schools. Stacy said research shows that early intervention is very beneficial to these students for success in school. Cherrie added that the program also reaches out to parents to make them more comfortable with the school setting and to encourage a positive experience for their children. Review 08.12.14 Meeting Minutes: Stacy asked members to review the August 12, 2014 meeting minutes for corrections or changes. MARY KIRKWOOD MOVED TO ACCEPT THE AUGUST 12, 2014 MEETING MEETINGS; JENN HOSKING SECONDED. SO VOTED Change in Nashua ETV Meeting Date: Stacy noted the October 14 meeting date is changed to October 7 due to a schedule conflict. The Committee Schedule and District calendar have been updated. Alliance for Community Media Northeast Video Festival, October 9-11, 2014: Stacy congratulated Pete for winning 2nd and 3rd place awards presented by the Alliance for Community Media Northeast. Second place was given to a production by students from the high school Video Broadcasting class under the direction of teacher Jeff Leone. Pete said the 3rd place awards were in the professional category: Carol Gorelick’s It’s Story Time, broadcast on Nashua ETV 6:00 pm every weekday, 8:00 am Saturday and Sunday, and Midnight Madness, the midnight basketball game, Rivier University versus Daniel Webster College. Alliance for Community Media Northeast Conference and Trade Show, October 9-10, Crowne Plaza, Nashua – Pete said this is the first time the conference has been in Nashua. The link for information is www.acm-ne.org; click on the 2014 Northeast Conference link. o Thursday, October 9 – Trade show with vendors and dinner in the evening o Friday, October 10 – Four different learning seminars ACM-NE 16th Annual Video Festival Awards Ceremony, Saturday, October 11, 12:30-3:30 pm, Alpine Grove, Hollis: Pete is hosting the event this year. Winning submissions from all over the northeast will be presented and it is a great opportunity to learn what other video groups are doing. Nashua ETV Minutes, September 9, 2014 Joel Iwaskiewicz, Nashua ETV Host for NSD Programming: Stacy said she and Pete approached Joel last year to host programs for Nashua ETV and they hope to do several productions this fall. Joel is an English teacher at NHS South and very active in theater productions. Peter Johnson, Nashua ETV Access Administrator Report: Pete reviewed the E-Channel Access Administrator’s Report for September 9, 2014. August Coverage: There were 313 telecasts representing over 370 hours of local programming, including 8 live broadcasts. Recorded coverage for August included: o Two Nashua Silver Knights baseball games, recorded Silver Knights vs Martha’s Vineyard and broadcast live FCBL, Silver Knights vs Worcester, both at Holman Stadium o Nashua Public Library, recorded two Summer Concerts and Nashua Goes Back to School event o Recorded Seniors Count program, “Writing Your Memoir” o Recorded NH Ukulele Festival at Greeley Park o Recorded Nashua Soup Kitchen Student Backpack Distribution at Ledge Street Elementary o Recorded seniors packing back-to-school bags at Davidson Landing for Nashua Goes Back to School o Recorded first day of school at Dr. Norman Crisp Elementary School Financials: Financials not yet received. The CTAB meeting is Friday, September 12. CTAB Meeting: Purchase Monitor for Masse Building: Stacy asked Pete if the purchase of a monitor for Conference Room 1, discussed at last month’s meeting, is on the CTAB agenda for Friday. Pete said the dollar amount to purchase the monitor is not large enough to put on the CTAB agenda. Pete is checking on the availability of a small television monitor. In the meantime, Pete said he can set up an older monitor until he can purchase a new one. Review and approval of suggested announcements/suggested programming: Suggested Announcements o School Slides o School Registrations – Pete confirmed the announcement for school registration is running. o Purple Panther Preschool – The slide is running. o Primary Day: Vote! o Nashua Catholic Junior High Drama Group – Mary said Nashua Catholic is in need of a drama coach. Pete said he could put up a slide on Nashua ETV. Stacy suggested Mary contact Joel Iwaskiewicz as he is very involved in the theater community. Mary said Thomas More College has moved its admissions offices into the old mansion in front of their building and they have enjoyed a good relationship. Pete said Thomas More would be a good candidate for membership on the Nashua ETV committee. o School Open Houses - Cherrie asked if there is a slide posted for the school Open Houses. Stacy and Pete said there is no need as the schools have already sent out Open House schedules. o New Library Cards – Jenn said to celebrate the launch of their new logo, new library cards are available at this time for no charge (usually a $3 charge). Anyone who lives, works, or is a student in Nashua may obtain a card. Suggested Programming o Broad Street Construction Project –Mary asked if there are plans to film the Broad Street Elementary School renovations. Stacy said she spoke to Mark Conrad and the initial phase of the project will be completed around the holidays. They will schedule a Board of Education meeting and tour around that time; Nashua ETV will cover the meeting. Pete said that if he could have two weeks notice prior to the BOE meeting it would be good to film a tour beforehand with Plant Operations and possibly one of the aldermen from the building committee. Pete can put together a pre-tour program for presentation to the BOE. Stacy said Alderman Rick Dowd would most likely be willing to help out. Stacy said she does not know the timeline for the project. Page 2 of 3 Nashua ETV Minutes, September 9, 2014 o HS student information sessions on upcoming elections - Stacy asked Pete if there are plans for students to do political candidate interviews. Pete said there are no plans that he knows of. o 9.20.14 Open House – Stacy said the Nashua Police Department will hold its first open house in 15 years. She would like for Nashua ETV to promote the open house. o 11.4.14 In-service Day – Election day and in-service day for teachers. Sometimes a speaker is scheduled for teacher workshops but Stacy has not heard anything. o Nashua Reads, Nashua Public Library, Friday, October 24 – Theresa asked Jenn if the author for the 2014 Nashua Reads book The Art Forger (B. A. Shapiro) is scheduled to speak. Jenn said the author is scheduled for Friday, October 24. There is a reception at 6:00 pm; the event follows at 7:00 pm. Tickets may be purchased at the Nashua Public Library or mktix.com/npl. o Nashua Historical Society, Nashua Public Library – Pete said there will be several events coming up at the Nashua Public Library for recording on Nashua ETV. o High School Football Schedule – Pete submitted the high school football schedule for fall. o Battle of the Bridge Weekend, September 26 and 27 – Stellos Stadium and NHS South fields Publicity: None.
