Comcast Franchise Agreement: Public Hearing 7 pm, Wednesday, December 10:
Review Draft Letter from Committee Members to CTAB: Stacy said the original agreement with Comcast
and the City of Nashua was negotiated ten years ago. A subsequent agreement for the City of Nashua is
being renegotiated. Stacy distributed a draft copy of a letter of support from the Nashua ETV Committee,
addressed to Bruce Codagnone, Director, Information Technology for the City of Nashua, and asked
members to review the letter for input and suggestions.
o Nashua ETV Accomplishments: Stacy said Nashua ETV has made considerable progress since its
beginning in 2007 and its formal launch in 2009, which was produced and broadcast live from
Nashua High School South by television production students. Stacy said that live streaming of
programs was later added in 2011 that is very popular with viewers and provides convenient
access to programming.
o Funding for Nashua ETV: Pete said that technically the funding for Nashua ETV can be
much higher. The letter encourages a franchise agreement that maximizes the 5% of fees
allowable under FCC rules.
o 12.10.14 Public Hearing Attendance: Stacy will represent the Committee: Members offered
clarifications and changes to the text of the letter and were in agreement with the text as
modified. All agreed that the letter should be submitted at the public hearing for consideration.
Stacy will attend the public hearing and submit the letter of support on behalf of the committee.
Joel Iwaskiewicz, Nashua ETV Host for I on Education:
11.24.14 Interview with Deepika Kurup: Stacy said the first interview program with Nashua
student Deepika Kurup who invented a water purification system was a very good first step for Nashua
ETV in broadcasting the interview-style programs. Joel teaches English at NHS South and did an excellent
job conducting the interview. Stacy said she appreciated Joel volunteering to host the program.

Next Program Topic: Pete said he would like to receive suggestions for additional I on Education
programs. The interviews will be with just one or two people for a 20- to 30-minute program. Several
suggestions were offered by members:
o Purple Panthers Preschool Interview: Cherrie Fulton suggested the Purple Panthers Preschool
program at NHS South with the Nashua high school students in the early education program may
be interesting to the public. Diane Vienneau said current teachers who emerged from the
program could be featured.
o Value of Art in the Education System: Stacy said teachers have approached her about a
program on the value of art in schools. Pete said he plans to start taping in January to air in
March simultaneously with Youth Art Month. Pete would like for Joel to host the interview with
head art teacher Julia Luteran.
o Nashua High School Alumni in Public Service or a Celebrity: Diane said I on Education could
interview Nashua graduates who are now locally or nationally known as a celebrity. Several
names immediately came to mind such as Kelly Ayotte, Judd Gregg, Joe Laplante. Stacy said this is
a very good idea but would take some time to put together. Cherrie suggested that, instead of a
half-hour program, smaller “blips” could be shown with a brief background on the graduates and
what they are now doing. Stacy said it could be called “Alumni Moment.” Cherrie said viewers
would want to tune in to see the next celebrity. Members suggested several more names. Ed
said the research could be challenging but very worthwhile. Pete said if the program is taped
correctly it can be broadcast over several years and still be relevant. All members agreed a
program such as “Alumni Moment” would be excellent programming for Nashua ETV.
Peter Johnson, Nashua ETV Access Administrator Report: Pete reviewed his October programming report
submitted to CTAB and the E-Channel Access Administrator’s Report for December 9, 2014.
October Coverage: There were 12 live broadcasts, for 130 different shows and 316 playbacks for 359
hours of programming.
o Sports: field hockey, football, soccer, and girls powder-puff football.
o Alliance for Community Media New England Video Festival Awards
o Nashua Education Foundation NEFie Awards
November Coverage: There were over 305 telecasts representing over 400 hours of local
programming, including five live meetings and two live sporting events.
o Sports:
Football - NHIAA Division I, two games (one live), and live coverage of Nashua Turkey
Bowl
Basketball – Midnight Madness and women’s basketball at Rivier University
o Seniors Count Program Aging Pets
o BOE Meeting, live, topic Smarter Balanced testing

o It’s Story Time with Carol Gorelick, two new programs
o Nashua Historical Society program on the Nashua River

Pete said last month Nashua ETV made several programming trades for out of town football games during the
football season. Towns included Hudson Community TV, Londonderry Educational Channel, GTV Goffstown,
Bedford Community Television, and Manchester Public Television Service. As president of the New Hampshire
Coalition for Community Media, Pete hopes to encourage more stations to exchange quality school sporting
events. Pete said he received several comments that people enjoyed viewing games from surrounding
communities.
