K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes July 7, 2020. The K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library Board met on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 5:00 PM at the Public Library. Present were Board Members Paul McDonald, Lynn Klundt, and Troy McQuillen and Library Director Shirley Arment. City Manager Joe Gaa was also present at the meeting. President Paul McDonald called the meeting to order. OPEN FORUM 3 community members spoke in the open forum portion of the meeting. All expressed a desire to see more library services reopened for public use. MINUTES Troy McQuillen moved that the minutes of the June 2nd, 2020 meeting be approved. Lynn Klundt seconded the motion. Motion carried. LIBRARIAN’S REPORT The librarian’s report, as presented, was discussed. Shirley Arment introduced new City Manager Joe Gaa and newly hired Information Services Librarian Kathy Haas to the Library Board. She also reported on an upcoming webinar related to the public library’s role in elections that library staff will be viewing. FINANCIAL MATTERS Paul McDonald and Shirley Arment reported on their meeting to discuss the library budget with City Officials. City Manager Joe Gaa indicated that City Finances are looking favorable for 2021 but nothing is official as of yet. He hopes to be able to increase Library line items amounts for books/materials and ebooks/media services on a yearly basis to keep up with increasing costs. He also mentioned that the City will be getting Federal Grant money to help cover the costs incurred by the Covid 19 epidemic and that further information would be forthcoming. The current list of bills and financial statements were discussed. Lynn Klundt moved to approve that the June 2020 bills be paid and that the financial reports be received and placed on file. Troy McQuillen seconded. Motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Board reviewed the phased reopening plan for the Library. Troy McQuillen moved to approve progressing forward to phase 4 of the plan, with the continued understanding that the plan is fluid and may be revised as needed after approval by the Board. Lynn Klundt seconded. Motion carried. The Library staff will have a detailed plan, supplies and materials ready for Stage 5 when the Board decides it is time to move forward. Paul McDonald asked that the reopening committee meet in two weeks to review the plan and make recommendations to the rest of the Board. Lynn Klundt will chose a Board member to join her on the committee, with a meeting date to be determined. Troy McQuillen moved to recommend that the Board request that the Library Foundation Board consider the purchase of a memorial in honor of Karl O. Lee. Lynn Klundt seconded. Motion carried. Troy McQuillen moved to submit the following slate of officers for election to Library Board Leadership for 2020-21: President: Paul McDonald Vice-President: Troy McQuillen Treasurer: Lynn Klundt Foundation Board representatives: Troy McQuillen and Paul McDonald Lynn Klundt seconded. The motion carried with all voting Aye. The next Library Board meeting will be Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 5:00 PM at the Public Library. ____________________________ Its__________________________
