K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes June 1, 2021. The K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library Board met on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 5:00 PM at the Public Library. Present in person were Board Members Paul McDonald, Troy McQuillen, Peter Ramey, and Cindy Senger. Lynn Klundt joined the meeting through Zoom. Also present were City Council Representative Rob Ronayne, Library Director Shirley Arment, Assistant Director Cara Perrion and City Manager Joe Gaa. President Paul McDonald called the meeting to order. OPEN FORUM Community member Robert Fay spoke in the open forum portion of the meeting. MINUTES Troy McQuillen moved that the minutes of the May 4, 2021 meeting be approved. Cindy Senger seconded the motion. Motion carried. LIBRARIAN’S REPORT The librarian’s report, as presented, was discussed. Librarians Sabrina Padfield and Cara Perrion reported on plans for the Library’s Summer Reading Program. FINANCIAL MATTERS The current list of bills and financial statements were discussed. Lynn Klundt moved to approve that the May 2021 bills be paid and that the financial reports be received and placed on file. Cindy Senger seconded. Motion carried with 4 in favor and 1 abstention. Troy McQuillen moved that the proposed 2022 library budget, prepared by the Library Director, be approved for submittal to the City Manager. Peter Ramey seconded. Motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Board viewed the completed memorial in honor of Karl O. Lee. Troy McQuillen moved to approve a budget request of $14,000 to provide library services to Brown County for the year 2022. Cindy Senger seconded. Motion carried with 4 votes in favor and 1 opposed. The Library Board viewed a photograph and discussed a mural painted by Mary Groth. The painting is being donated to the Library by the Aberdeen Questers organization. Further discussion about this matter will be held at the July Board meeting. The Board discussed possible locations in the library to display the bronze memorial of Karl O. Lee. NEW BUSINESS The Library Director and the current Library Board members thanked Board President Paul McDonald for his dedication as a member of the Board for the last 3 years and wished him luck in his future endeavors. Executive Session Minutes for 6/1/2021 Motion by Troy McQuillen second by Cindy Senger to move into executive session to discuss matters permitted by SDCL 1-25-2(1). Upon roll call vote, all voted aye, motion carried. Executive session started at 5:50 p.m. An open position on the Library Board was discussed. Motion by Peter Ramey, second by Cindy Senger to move out of executive session. All voting aye, motion carried. Executive session ended at 5:56 p.m. The next Library Board meeting will be Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 5:00 PM at the Public Library. ____________________________ Its__________________________

Members of the public who would like to attend the meeting will be allowed into the meeting, with social distancing measures in place. Thank you Open forum provides an opportunity for the public to address the Library Board with questions, concerns or comments on items, which are not on the agenda. Open forum will be limited to 10 minutes. The open forum may not be used to make personal attacks, to air personality grievances, to make political endorsements, or for political campaign purposes. Open forum will not be used as a time for problem solving or reacting to the comments made, but, rather for hearing the citizen for informational purposes. The Library Board may respond with a request for Library Management to follow up report back on any issue raised during the public address time. A presentation may not exceed two minutes in duration.
