Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes Meeting Date: Tuesday, April 19, 2016 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m. Location: City Hall 2nd Floor Conference Room Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting Attended: Doris Stusiak, Marianne Dale, Becca Wells, Tom Wanttie, Laura Stoltenburg, Holly Gederos, Kristi Myhre, Deb Kambel, Sarah Johnson, Krista Bau, Cody Roggatz, Eric Vetter Absent: Cindy Kirschman, Nancy Kelsey, Mendy Jones, Dawn Brush, Ted Kneebone, Kris Fastenau, Dawn LaMee, Dalita Meyer, Marcus VanDam, Steve Kelsey, Marcus VanDam, Ardell Fiedler 1. Standing Items 1.1 Agenda Additions-Eric Vetter was approached by the BRC fair manager to see if the committee would be interested in sponsoring ($300) a juggling act performed by a one-handed juggler. Eric will find out when an answer is needed and share some information with the committee about the act. It was mentioned that the committee’s banner could be displayed near the act. Laura Stoltenburg informed the committee that she wrote a letter to the BRC office in regard to the Home/Arts Registration Form for entering exhibit items which has a “Handicap Division.” Laura requested that whoever is in charge of this consider a change in wording. 1.2 A correction on the spelling of Sarah Johnson’s name was made to the February 2016 meeting. Motion made by Tom Wanttie & seconded by Deb Kambel to approve February/March meeting minutes. Motion carried. 1.3 Treasurer Laura Stoltenburg was unable to get the most current account balance but as of March’s meeting the balance was $1449.90. The BAD subcommittee generated $2500 from the request for donations to provide t-shirts to the attendees. There will be $303 left after paying the bill for the t-shirts to be used for future BAD expenses. 2. Committee Reports 2.1. BAD - Chairwoman Marianne Dale reported a final count of 366 5th grade students attended the event. There were 3 schools absent: Lincoln, Warner and Groton. Marianne passed around some of the reviews and there were many compliments. One of the concerns noted is that keeping the event on schedule is a challenge. Marianne had asked teachers about this. Due to bussing students, we cannot add any extra time to the schedule or run late. Eric used his GoPro camera to video the wheelchair races, and he will put them on the Facebook page. 2.2. Partners in Community Pride – No Report. 2.3. Transportation – Tom Wanttie reported the railing is not quite finished yet. The Rideline offices will be getting a fresh coat of paint from the Day of Champions volunteers. Rideline will be losing one bus due to significant repairs so they will have 14 busses. The updated Rideline handbook is  done and will be available on the city’s website soon. Cody Roggatz reported there will be some changes made to the airport runways but it should not affect flights. The airport is also making changes to lighting for cost-saving reasons. 2.4. Educational Enhancement Award – No report. 2.5. NDEAM – The proposal for $2300 was approved for speaker fees, refreshments, etc. Laura Stoltenburg will be arranging a meeting of the subcommittee soon. 2.6. ADA Anniversary Celebration – No Report. 3. Old Business 3.1. “Did You Realize . . .” (Holly Gederos, Krista Bau, Eric Vetter, Ardell Fiedler) - The group has reviewed the current documents and decided to completely revamp the articles and look at some “marketing” strategies for these articles. 3.2. Housing Authority Update (Susan Hook, Cindy Kirschman) - The trifold brochure is complete and a black/white copy was shared with the committee. We would like to have colored brochures but the cost is a factor. QQP will charge $0.60/copy and NSU printing is $0.40/copy. Suggestions were given to check with the public library and VistaPrint. The goal is to distribute the brochure in May. 3.3. Curb Cut and Accessible Parking Issues Update (Eric Vetter) – Doris Stusiak emailed the committee members the proposed message on the cards that would be placed on cars that are parked in accessible parking spots without the appropriate permit displayed. Eric got some prices to print these cards in a 4”x6” size on colored paper and it would be $72.94 for 500 cards o r $92.01 for 1000 cards. Cody Roggatz moved to print 1000 cards, and it was seconded by Krista Bau - motion carried. 4. New Business 4.1. BAD Financials (Doris Stusiak) - Doris asked the committee if the money that was generated for BAD should be earmarked separately from the general funds just like the ADA money is. All committee members agreed this is the way it should be handled. 4.2. Chamber for Good website invite (Doris Stusiak) - Doris forwarded the email regarding this and had asked members to take a look at it. She will go ahead and get the Mayor’s Committee on the website and be the administrator for the committee. This will hopefully help this committee generate volunteers for events and possible donations of money or supplies. 4.3. 2016 Governor’s Awards Nominations (Doris Stusiak) - The deadline for nominations is April 29th. Doris has the nomination form if someone would like to submit a nomination. Dan Cleberg has received this award in the past. 5. Review Upcoming Dates 5.1. SD Foundation/SBVI “Dinner in the Dark” – May 5, 2016; Ramkota Convention Center/Doris has raffle tickets if anyone is interested in purchasing for $10 each. The dinner tickets are $35 each. 5.2. Aspire Annual Foundation Dinner – June 1, 2016/Tim Miles will be the speaker. 5.3. NAMI Aberdeen will be meeting the third Tuesday of each month, 5:30 – 7:00 at NEMHC 6. Ending Items – Adjourn Meeting 7. Next Meeting: May 17, 2016 7.1. Addendum: Information about the one-handed juggler was shared with committee members via email. Eric Vetter moved to approve sponsoring the juggler, and Sarah Johnson seconded it. The motion carried 15-0 and was approved on April 26, 2016.
