Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes Meeting Date: Tuesday, May 19, 2020 Start Time: 12 p.m. End Time: 1 p.m. Location: Virtual via Zoom Purpose: Regular scheduled meeting Present: Doris Stusiak, Cindy, Nancy Kelsey, Mendy Jones, Becca Wells, Tom Wanttie, Megan Neal, Nichole Nelson, Lance Sigdestad, Laura Stoltenburg, Tina Kenser, Dalita Meyer 1. Standing Items 1.1 Any additions to agenda? No new items to add 1.2 Review and approve minutes from February 2020 Meeting – Cindy, Mendy second to approve the meeting minutes. All approve. 1.3 Review and approve Treasurer’s report for March – April 2020 . Laura reported that there is no new expenses and the financial totals is the same as the February meeting. Added expenses for supplies to BAD event. Doris showed the committee the Mayor’s Council volunteer T-shirts. Tom made the motion to approve the treasurer’s report with a second from Megan. All approve. 1.4 Excused absence: Tyler Goldade 2. Committee Reports 2.1 BAD – Becca Wells, Allison Schmitt, Doris Stusiak, Nancy Kelsey, Gwyn Fischbach (add email vote retroactively to cancel BAD 2020) – On March 16th, an email vote was completed to cancel the 2020 BAD event. 9 members voted, all 9 members voted to cancel the event for this year. Discussion was held on how to hold the BAD event in 2021 and can we pick up the 5th grade class that missed the 2020 event. 2.2 Enhance Aberdeen – Eric Vetter – No report 2.3 Transportation – Tom Wanttie – Much less rides per day. Through the Cares Act, 100% of Rideline expenses are covered. Staff busy fixing and painting the shop/garage. 2.4 Education Enhancement Award – Mendy Jones (question re: nursing student/Doris Stusiak) – Mendy sent the letter out and adjusted the deadline date to July 1st to allow students time to apply. Discussed if we should include nursing students from SDSU who attend class at NSU campus. Currently the committee only has the award open to NSU and PC students and has proof of graduation from a post-secondary school. In reviewing the guidelines, the committee has decided that SDSU nursing students would qualify to apply for this education award. 2.5 NDEAM – Laura Stoltenburg has been in communication Think 3D which may be the event for the October NDEAM event at 3 different events/locations. 2.6 ADA Anniversary Celebration – Eric Vetter (move this discussion to Old Business) 3. Old Business 3.1 Banners for Tabling – Dalita Meyer. There has been a pause in this process waiting for Tyler to make changes that the committee recommended at the February meeting. Also discussed obtaining more printing quotes since at this point only 3 quotes have been obtained: Quality Quick Print, Vista Print and Production Monkey. 3.2 Volunteer T-shirts (Doris Stusiak) Doris reported that T-shirts have arrived and will be used for volunteers who assist with Mayor’s Council events but will not be given out to people permanently. 3.4 ADA Celebration (Eric Vetter) Tom reported that the committee has not been meeting. Discussed the options for the 30th year celebration if we did not have a group event. Looking at grant opportunities through the radio station to advertise. Tom made a motion to allow the ADA Celebration a budget of up to $100 and with a second by Cindy. All approve. 4. New Business 4.1 City Promotion Request (Doris Stusiak)- Doris reviewed the entries on the request form that was completed. Discussed appropriate amount of funding to ask the city for the next fiscal year. The request is due Friday, May 22nd. Agreed to ask for less funding this year since the committee realizes that the city will not have funding as prior years due to the Covid epidemic. 5. Review Upcoming Dates – NAMI Family Support Group – 2nd Monday of month, 6:30-7:30, Fireside Room, Bethlehem Lutheran Church NAMI Aberdeen Affiliate Meeting – 3rd Monday of month, 5:30 – 7:00, Location TBA NAMI Connections Peer Support Group – 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:00-7:00, ARCC NAMI Night – One (1) Saturday monthly, TBD 6.
