CITY OF ALBANY COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS Meeting Minutes City Hall February 16, 2023 Opening: The February 16, 2023, meeting was called to order at 6:07 PM by Vice Chair Thomas Mueller. Present: Vice Chairperson Thomas Mueller; Secretary Thomas Richards; Commissioner Valerie Alexander-Moseley; Commissioner Celia Evers; Commissioner Rosie Love; Jasmine Higgins (City of Albany); Raisi Mobele (City of Albany Absent: Chairperson Aaron Moore; Commissioner Natisha Moseley; Commission Kate Shelly Quorum: Yes Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes: Minutes of January 19, 2023, approved as distributed. Business from the Prior Meeting: Discussion on planning for the 2023 Commission awards ceremony, which is tentatively planned for June 2023, and review of the 2022 awards ceremony. Commissioners requested to develop two recommendations for organizations and individuals to be honored at the forthcoming event. Vice Chair Mueller facilitated a discussion on use and access to the Commission website and social media accounts. Executive Director Higgins reported that the City would post past meeting minutes to the Commission website, and that business cards would be provided to commissioners upon request. Secretary Richards reported on the 2022 Annual Report concerning Commission activity. After discussion, a motion was duly carried to advance the 2022 Annual Report to the Common Council. New Business: Executive Director Higgins reported that Dr. Elizabeth Whalen, Albany County Health Commissioner, would present on water fluoridation at the March 16, 2023, meeting. 1 Discussion on the upcoming Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus events. Executive Director Higgins to advise on whether tickets could be available for commissioners to attend related events. Request by Commission Alexander-Moseley that the Commission be notified in advance concerning the availability of tickets for relevant events. Executive Director Higgins to advise on W9 processing to complete commission stipends and whether a commission budget could be developed for public events. Planning for the 2024 Black History Month deferred until May 2023. No public comments were received before or submitted during the meeting. Adjournment: This meeting was adjourned at 6:28 PM.
