SPENCER DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT CONTACT: Erin Glennon Historic Resources Commission hrc@albanyny.gov Historic Resources Commission Meeting Date: Wednesday, March 4, 2020 Location: 200 Henry Johnson Blvd | 2nd Floor Community Room Present Members: Geraghty, Hacker, McEneny, Myers, Pinckney Planning Staff: Glennon DISPOSITION OF CASES PROJECT # 00340 Application(s) COA # 0598 Property Address 115 South Pearl Street Owner Seraj Properties, LLC Historic District Mansion After discussing the proposal to install an internally illuminated channel letter sign to be located above the existing storefront, the Commission voted to approve the proposal with the condition that the overall height of the sign be reduced from 23" to 20" inches, measuring from the top of the 'T’ in ‘Metro’ and bottom of the ‘Y’ in ‘by'. The Commission made the following recommendations-  The proposed sign should be centered within the sign band so that the ‘T’ in ‘Metro’ does not extend into the cornice trim of the roof assembly and the ‘Y’ in ‘by’ does not overlap on the storefront window trim. ACTION: Approve with Conditions Motion to ACTION: Pinckney Second: McEneny Vote: 5-0 PROJECT # 00336 Property Address 236 Clinton Avenue Owner Albany Center for Economic Success Historic District Clinton Avenue/North Pearl Street/Clinton Square After discussing the proposal to construct a three story mixed-use structure on an existing vacant lot, the Commission made the following recommendations during the Concept Review-  To show the building context provided a scaled building rending showing the full streetscape;  Add vertical delineation to break up the façade and give the appearance of multiple bays by- o Recessing the proposed brick cladding; o Using different colored brick; o Change in roof height; or o Different cornice treatments.  Use the rear elevation as a guide for adding vertical delineation to the front elevation; and  Break up the canopy over the proposed commercial space to reflect the multiple storefronts. 200 HENRY JOHNSON BOULEVARD | ALBANY, NEW YORK 12210 | (518) 465-6066
