Gerstenberg, City Manager Summary There is one presentation tonight. No motions are needed to hear presentations. a. Algonac Asset Award – Algonac Robotics Club. Presented by Mayor Pro Tem Mike Bembas. The Algonac Robotics Club was created in 2015 to give students more opportunities within a small community. It started with one high school team, and has since grown to include all four levels of FIRST, a program that encourages students to become leaders of tomorrow by building STEM skills, confidence, teamwork, public speaking skills and building relationships with other teams. Algonac Robotics Club is committed to delivering STEM opportunities to the students of Algonac Community Schools, and is committed to providing outreach to our community. Some outreach has included working with Mi Kids on the Move to modify power wheel cars for mobility challenged children, sandbagging for elderly landowners during a flood emergency, and preparing and sewing almost 500 cloth masks for members of the community during the pandemic. Teams consist of 2nd through 12th grade students who compete in two district events each year. There are 11 members in middle school team and 20 members in high school team. There is also an elementary team but, due to coaching shortages, that program was not able to run this year. Middle School—"Algonac RoboRats”: Last year, the middle school team had to cancel regular season events due to covid, but were able to attend the Troy Hammerhead MAYhem off season event, and the RoboRats came home with a 1st place trophy as well as the Innovate Award for creative design and ingenuity and for thinking outside the box. They were also a finalist for the Control Award. High School—"Full Metal Muskrats”: The high school team competed at the Macomb District event where they finished 18th out of 41 teams, and also at the Rochester Event where they finished 13th out of 36 teams. They worked really hard throughout the season to compete with a great robot in the midst of many setbacks and obstacles. Last year, they also awarded the first Algonac Robotics Scholarship of $500 to Katie Emery. This award is only available to seniors in our robotics program. The program is available to anyone who wants to join; there is no cost to join and participate. They rely solely on grants, sponsorships and fundraising efforts to cover the costs necessary to run this very worthwhile program.  City Manager’s Report – October 18, 2022 LEAF VACUUM: WILL BE OUT NOVEMBER 7 – 23 & WILL COMPLETE ONE ROTATION OF THE CITY, STARTING AT THE SOUTH END. Fertilization is required in early spring, late spring, summer, and late summer. Quotes were requested from three landscape companies. Quotes were requested from multiple landscape companies.
