Gerstenberg, City Manager Summary There are three presentations tonight. No motions are needed to hear presentations. a. Safety and Security for Special Events by Sheriff Mat King. b. Proclamation Recognizing Workers Memorial Day April 28, 2023. c. Algonac Asset Award - Diane Chmielewski presented by Councilwoman Cathy Harris. Diane was nominated for both Algonac Asset and Nice Neighbor awards, as her efforts are defined by both: she is someone who has made the city a better place to live, and someone who does what they can to make life nicer for their neighbors. The nominator went on to describe Diane by saying: "Diane volunteers to help many of the organizations in town, spearheads the Pierogifest in October, and helps friends and neighbors with food, clothing, transportation, and checks up on those who are ill." Diane has been a resident since 2009, but acts like a life-long resident, and has been an active community supporter since day one. She is a member of Algonac Alive, a nonprofit organization which is committed to making improvements to the community. She participates in many events including: Adopt-A­ Highway cleanup, Parked Christmas Parade, and brought her outstanding artistic abilities to help make the first Christmas Card Lane a success. She plants flowers, and assists any event whenever needed. Something near and dear to her heart, she organizes the annual Pierogifest by bringing in delicious, authentic Polish food catered by Polish Village Cafe in Hamtramck. This fun event supports National Pierogi Day, raises funds for Algonac Alive, and enhances the community by providing time-honored Polish traditions. Diane also works as a chairperson at the polling location on election day, helping ensure all residents their right to vote. Her dedication to the community and consistent volunteerism makes the city a better place. Diane represents the meaning of Nice Neighbor, which truly makes her an Asset to Algonac.  Item No: llb Meeting: 4.18.2023 Business of the Algonac City Council Agenda Statement Item Title: To approve Permit for Fireworks Other than Consumer or Low Impact. Submitted By: Chief Joe Doan, Fire Department Summary Attached is a fireworks public display permit as required by the Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs to permit the pyrotechnic operator, Great Lakes Fireworks LLC, to conduct the fireworks display during the annual Pickerel Tournament on July 1, 2023, with a rain date scheduled for July 2, 2023. Suggested Action: MOVED BY: SUPPORTED BY: RESOLVED, to approve Permit for Fireworks Other than Consumer of Low Impact provided by Great Lakes Fireworks LLC, whose address is 24805 Marine Avenue, Eastpointe, MI 48021 for fireworks public display July 1, 2023, with a rain date of July 2, 2023 and direct the City Clerk to sign the Permit on behalf of the city.
