City Manager's Report - February 20, 2024
Algonac Elementary School Update: The residents have shared their ideas
with the city and a summary of the ideas will be presented and discussed at
7PM on March 5, after the regular City Council meeting.
Ambulance Millage August 2022 Update: Positive developments at Tri
Hospital EMS (THEMS), including:
Trained 51 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's), 27 Paramedics and 37
Medical First Responders (MFR's).
Ordered 8 new ambulances equipped with latest technology to keep patients
and employees safe during transport.
Increased the number of deployed ambulances to optimize response times
and enhance service to the public.
Eliminated the co-insurance balances for St. Clair County residents who
utilized an ambulance. The typical healthcare plan covers 80% of ambulance
and the subscriber is responsible for the remaining 20%. Tri-Hospital now
waives that 20% balance for all St. Clair County residents who utilize an
ambulance.
Pool Update: As you know, the 1957 pool at Lions Field was closed in 2020
due to water loss and safety concerns. The total estimated cost of the new
pool is $1.7 million dollars. To save taxpayer money, the city has been actively
seeking grants funds for the new pool. So far the city has received grants
totaling $700,000. The city has applied for one more grant and expected an
announcement in early 2024. We received notice this week that we did not
receive funding. Therefore, the next step will be to go out for bids and then
determine if funding will be available.
