Unofficial until adopted by the October 20, 2021 City Arts and Cultural Events Committee Action Item III APPROVE MINUTES ALHAMBRA CITY ARTS AND CULTURAL EVENTS COMMITTEE Wednesday, September 15, 2021 7:00 P.M. The regular meeting of the City Arts and Cultural Events Committee was called to order at 7:03 P.M. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Alhambra City Hall, 111 South First Street Alhambra, via Video Conference Zoom. ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: Vice President Sanchez and Committee Member Jimenez. Committee Members Absent: President Canseco-Chan. Also attending: Director Michael Macias, Deputy Director Brie Houghton, and Clerical Assistant II Kelsey Rivadeneyra. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 18 2021 C.A.C.E. MEETING With a motion by Vice President Sanchez and a second from Committee Member Jimenez, the minutes of August 18, 2021 City Arts and Cultural Events Committee meeting were unanimously approved as written. ALHAMBRA ART ALLEY PROJECT No update from the City Arts and Cultural Events Committee. Deputy Director Houghton is currently creating a cover photo before launching the Alhambra Art Alley Community survey on all City of Alhambra social media platforms. STAFF REPORT Deputy Director Houghton informed the committee that the contract with artist Yeu Q. Nguyen is presently under review with the City Attorney. After it is approved by the City Attorney, the City of Alhambra will move forward with processing payment to Yeu Q. Nguyen and begin the art installation. The City Arts and Cultural Events Committee agreed to start judging the pumpkin decorating contest at 2:30 P.M. for Autumn Fest. Deputy Director Houghton will reach out to President Canseco-Chan via e-mail and telephone to see if he is available to join the committee. PUBLIC COMMUNICATION Guadulesa Rivera, visual artist and facilitator for the Breathe Free Alhambra Coalition, expressed interest in exhibiting for 2022 at the Alhambra City Hall Lobby Art Gallery. The Breathe Free Alhambra Coalition’s mission is to inform the community about the health risks of tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke and aerosol vapors through arts-based learning and reflection. Ms. Rivera will submit art samples and a completed exhibition application to Clerical Assistant II Rivadeneyra for the coalition’s proposed art and advocacy exhibition titled: Breathe Alhambra. COMMITTEE COMMUNICATION Vice President Sanchez and Committee Member Jimenez created a Public Art Request for Proposal template for the District Public Arts Projects. Deputy Director Houghton requested a copy of the document to be sent via e-mail for her review. ADJOURNMENT Vice President Sanchez moved to adjourn the September 15, 2021, City Arts and Cultural Events Committee Meeting. Seconded by committee member Jimenez, the meeting was adjourned at 7:28 P.M.
