As an alternative you can e-mail your comments by sending them to kelsey@cityofalhambra.org no later than 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday November 16, 2022 to ensure that it will be printed prior to the beginning of the meeting. Comments will then be read into the record, with a maximum allowance of 5 minutes per individual comment, subject to the President’s discretion. If a comment is received after 5:00 P.M. but before the conclusion of the meeting based on its time stamp, the comment will still be included as a part of the record of the meeting but will not be read into the record. The regular meeting of the City Arts and Cultural Events Commission was called to order at 7:01 P.M. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Alhambra City Hall, 111 South First Street Alhambra, via Video Conference Zoom. ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: President Canseco-Chan, Vice President Saunders, Commission Member Jimenez, and Commission Member Massaro. Committee Members Absent: Commission Member Hermano. Also attending: Director Macias, Deputy Director Brie Houghton, Recreation Supervisor Amanda Leonard and Clerical Assistant II Kelsey Rivadeneyra. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 21, 2022 REGULAR C.A.C.E. MEETING With a motion from Vice President Saunders and a second by Commission Member Massaro, the minutes from the September 21, 2022 regular meeting were approved. ALHAMBRA DISTRICT ART PROJECTS President Canseco-Chan and Council Member Maza will return with an update at the next City Arts and Cultural Events Commission meeting after scouting locations on Main Street for a sculpture or mural. Michael Dergar, CEO and founder of the nonprofit Academy of Special Dreams Foundation, in collaboration with Councilmember Lee and Commission Member Massaro, presented metal winged sculptures concepts for the Alhambra Renaissance theatre. The proposed metal wing sculptures represent love, hope, diversity and inclusion of the arts and invites members of the public to stand in front and take photographs. Deputy Director Houghton needs to confirm with the staff if the Alhambra Renaissance theatre location is acceptable for the sculptures and requested an outline of materials cost, maintenance plan for the sculptures from Michael Dergar. With a motion from President Canseco Chan and a second by Commission Member Massaro, the City Arts and Cultural Events Commission agreed to have City of Alhambra staff look into the property’s availability for use and to request a rough estimate of cost from Michael Dergar before moving forward to appropriation of funds from Alhambra City Council. STAFF REPORT Deputy Director Houghton invited the City Arts and Cultural Events Commission to join the city at Alhambra Park on November 11th for the Veteran’s Day ceremony that will host the American Legion Post 139 with live music and continental breakfast. Deputy Director Houghton also invited the City Arts and Cultural Events Commission and their families to participate as judges for the upcoming Holiday Home Decorating Contest and as volunteers to decorate the 2023 City of Alhambra Tournament of Roses Parade float entry. PUBLIC COMMUNICATION None.
