ARTS, PARKS, & RECREATION COMMITTEE PROCEEDINGS August 22nd, 2023 The Amery Arts, Parks, and Rec. Committee met on August 22nd, 2023, at the Amery City Center. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. Present: Members Tommy Dusek, Joyce Schaefer, Catherine Olsen, Colleen Adams, and Denise Johnson. Others Present: Clerk-Treasurer, Ben Jansen; Deputy Clerk-Treasurer, Taylor Larson, and members of Design Amery. Member Adams requested and motioned to add discussion of the downtown flowers to the agenda for tonight’s meeting. Motion by Adams, seconded by Schaefer, to add discussion of flowers to the agenda. Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion Carried. Nell Anderson and Tracy Hendrickson from Design Amery were present to discuss what they would like to see happen with the remaining Design Amery money that the Community Club is currently holding. Overall, they would like to see the money used to install wayfinding signage similar to what Osceola has. City staff will research what kind of signage can be placed according to WisDOT standards for the next meeting. 1. Approval of Minutes from July 26th, 2023. Motion by Schaefer; seconded by Olsen; to approve the minutes as presented. Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion Carried. 2. Discussion of City Murals – There have been no updates on the artists that created the current murals. The Building Inspector will be reaching out to Ruby Maes regarding the condition of the mural on their building. The City has ordinances requiring the upkeep of the exterior of buildings meaning that ultimately it will be up to the building owner to maintain or remove the mural. 3. Splashpad Planning Discussion – No other updates were heard at this time. Overall, it is anticipated that the project will be extremely expensive, however there are potential grants that would help offset the costs if awarded. The committee will be seeking bids for splashpads to better get an idea of how much the project could cost. 4. Downtown Flower Discussion – The committee is concerned that the City has already removed the flowers because they have died already. It was discussed that better care practices must be put into place to ensure that this does not happen again. The Committee will also ask Bergmann’s to attend the next meeting to get input on what sort of flowers should be planted. Another meeting was set for September 12th at 4 P.M. 1 Motion by Schaefer; seconded by Adams; to adjourn at 4:58 p.m. Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. Respectfully submitted, Ben Jansen City Clerk-Treasurer August 24th, 2023. 2
