Call to order at 7:00 PM by Anne as chair. II. Clock Deaccession Vote Anne summarized the August 12 Preservation Subcommittee meeting minutes (attached) regarding deaccession of the E Howard and Co Custom Regulator Wall Clock that was recently removed from the Amesbury Room wall to make space for the recently gifted CH Davis painting. The clock auction estimate is estimated by John McInnis Auctioneers at up to and between $1,000 and $2,000. The clock is currently at John McInnis Auctioneers. Removing the clock from the wall required partial disassembly. The clock is deemed heavy. There is no record of a deed of gift. The clock does not depict a local scene or have any known local history connection. The clock is ready to be deaccessioned as per the Preservation Committee meeting minutes of August 12, 2022. Gail discusses a related matter of the creation of a special collections care and acquisitions fund that would be under the City’s ownership for holding monies related to accession and deaccession of Amesbury Public Library special collections care and acquisitions. The City does not currently have such a fund. Aimie Westphal, who is away on PTO, is looking into the matter of creating such an account in coordination with the City CFO. The Board decided to discuss more fully the creation of this new account at a future Trustees meeting. Gail made a motion that the Board of Trustees deaccession the wall clock with the intent that all funds received from the sale of the clock be used for the special collections care and acquisitions fund. Jessica seconded. Vote was unanimous by all present at the time of the vote. III. Matters not reasonably anticipated in advance of the meeting The Board had a brief discussion regarding the damaged door handle on the library’s front doors. The person, Freddie Roman, who had done the recent conservation on the doors, is working on repairing the damaged wood of the door and a machinist will be fixing the metal handles and in coordination with Freddie they will put the handles back on. October 1st is the estimated completion date. The City is putting in an insurance claim. It is unclear if the damage was the result of vandalism or some other cause. IV. Adjourn: 7:17 PM.
