Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith, Trustee Jessica

The salute to the flag was led by Acting Chief of Police Bryan Burton.
Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the May 11th meeting of the Board of Trustees, which was
conducted online via video as well as by telephone using Zoom Meeting.
The Mayor expressed his heartfelt sympathy to all those who have lost a loved one due to the
Coronavirus.
He welcomed Amityville Fire Department Chief Rob Waegerle to his first Board Meeting of his
new term and welcomed Rob Macomber as the new 3rd Assistant Chief.
Mayor Siry thanked Clerk/Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer Tiffany Ladd for their hard work and
dedication in putting together a very good budget which had been passed at a previous meeting.
He announced that the next Board of Trustees meeting will be a Special Meeting on Thursday,
May 21st, at 8:15 a.m. due to the Memorial Day holiday. It is for the purpose of paying bills.
Other discussion:
Village Hall remains closed to the public under the Governor’s Executive Order, however, we
are still taking care of Village business. The Building Department will be staffed on Mondays,
Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Be sure to call ahead to coordinate Building
Dept. services, at 631-691-1909.
Property tax season is coming up. The Village will adhere to the existing State tax timeline, with
bills to be mailed out at the end of this month and payable between June 1st and July 1st without
penalty. Property owners are encouraged to pay taxes by mail to reduce COVID spread, or online
which is subject to additional credit card fees.

Committee Reports were presented by the Trustees for the month of April:
DPW (Trustee O’Neill) – He applauded the craftsmanship of Superintendent Hopper who is
finishing up building protectors for the Court Room and built hand sanitizer dispensers. DPW
crews are performing spring clean-up work around the Village.
Amityville Police Dept. (Deputy Mayor Smith): 3 arrests; 371 blotters; 40 citations, 81 medical
aided and 12 traffic accidents.
Building Dept (Deputy Mayor Smith): revenue was $2,425.00 and Building and Fire Marshall
inspections are being done only for essential matters. All permits can be found on the Village
website Amityville.com and can be emailed in. He also noted that there will be a Village
Planning Board meeting on May 21st at 7 p.m. and a Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on May
28th at 7 p.m. using Zoom Meeting.
He announced that all permit applications are on the Village website Amityville.com and can be
emailed in. We are also working on a digital filing feature.
Amityville Beach (Trustee Bernius): We have not yet sent out Summer Employee letters as we
are waiting for Governor Cuomo’s guidance. Mayor Siry added that we need to see how we are
meeting the State’s metrics. For the first time since the state began tracking COVID incidents,
hospitalizations have been below the 600 mark in Suffolk County, which is good news.
Senior Citizens (Trustee Bernius) Our Senior Center continues to be closed but Coordinator
Mayra Lee keeps in touch with participants.
Fire Department (Trustee Whalen): He reported five commercial fire alarms, 2 house fires, 1
vehicle fire, 93 rescue, 2 vehicle accidents, 2 mutual aid with working fires; and 2 CO alarm
calls, along with 1 mutual aid structure fire and 33 mutual aid rescues.
Justice Court (Trustee Bernius): report to come in June to coincide with NY State reporting.

Resolution
Resolution 20-5-11-01 Authorizing Bulkhead Replacement on Mincher Place
WHEREAS the Village of Amityville has a drainage easement at the end of Mincher Place,
and
WHEREAS said easement requires the Village to maintain the drainage pipe and bulkhead
adjacent thereto, and
WHEREAS said bulkhead is failing and needs to be replaced to prevent damage to the end
of Mincher Place and surrounding properties
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:

1) The Mayor of the Village of Amityville be and he hereby is authorized to enter into a
contract with a reputable contractor for the replacement of approximately twenty (20') feet of
bulkhead at the end of Mincher Place after following the village procurement protocol for public
contracts not requiring competitive bidding, for a total estimated cost not to exceed $15,000.
This Resolution shall be effective immediately.

A brief discussion took place on the need to repair the Amityville Beach jetty walkway to the
fishing pier. It may be necessary to place rocks and netting to secure the area while we continue
to look at repair options and funding.
The Village is looking to conduct a socially distanced Memorial Day service on May 25th at the
Triangle to honor our fallen soldiers. Information will be posted on our website and Facebook
page.
In closing, Mayor Siry urged everyone to remain safe.
