Board of Trustees Minutes November 23, 2020 Meeting called to order at 7:30 pm MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Dennis Siry, Deputy Mayor Kevin Smith, Trustee Jessica Bernius, Trustee Whalen, Trustee O’Neill ALSO PRESENT: Village Attorney Bruce Kennedy AFD Chief Rob Waegerle APD Chief Bryan Burton Superintendent Bruce Hopper Building Inspector Bryan Donato Clerk/Treasurer Catherine Murdock Assistant to the Mayor Wendy O’Neill The salute to the flag was led by Chief Bryan Burton. Mayor Siry welcomed everyone to the November 23rd Meeting of the Board of Trustees, conducted via Zoom Meeting. He announced that the Village Tree Lighting will be conducted virtually this year and aired on the Village Facebook page. While we would like to conduct it live this will not be possible this year. He advised that Village Hall will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving and wished everyone a peaceful, safe holiday. Mayor Siry reminded residents that Covid-19 cases are rising locally (Massapequa Park and Copiague numbers are high) so please wear a mask, wash hands and follow CDC guidelines. He also noted that resident Don McVeety is back in action and will be collecting for Toys for Tots. There is a toy donation box in the lobby of Village Hall. The Mayor also reported that he and the Trustees participated in a dedication of two historical marker signs, arranged through the Town of Babylon and the Pomeroy Foundation and the Amityville Historical Society, which recognize the historical significance of the Park North Administration Building and St Mary’s Church. Coincidentally, the Park North High School building, which was opened in 1895, had its opening delayed due to an epidemic that struck the community. Deputy Mayor Smith then announced Small Business Saturday takes place this weekend and to please support local businesses especially during these difficult times. Also, Mayor Siry reminded everyone that on Thursday, December 3rd there are promotions going on at local businesses – check the Chamber of Commerce website. The Mayor encouraged residents to check the Village website regularly for events and to sign up for Mayor’s Messages. The Walters” (prep at 3 p.m.) A discussion ensued about the small, independent feature film request and details were provided by the location manager and producer. They made a request to close Park Ave. and partially close Broadway for the safety of the children acting in the film. Other details and options were discussed, however, Mayor Siry responded that more information would be needed about APD/DPW overtime, as well as the impact on local businesses during this Christmas shopping season. 3  Board of Trustees Minutes November 23, 2020 Dina Rosenberg, 34 Wellington Pl., owner of Amityville Apothecary on Park Ave., asked if pedestrian traffic would be restricted, to which the producer stated that it would not. The Trustees agreed that costs should not be incurred by the Village and that the Village reserves the right not to enter into an agreement once information is gathered about costs and the feelings of local businesses. Mayor Siry thanked them for their interest in the Village and regardless of the outcome of this request, he encouraged them to keep the Village in mind for future projects. MOTION to APPROVE to move forward in exploring the project with the stipulations that Broadway will not be closed to traffic, was made by Deputy Mayor Smith and seconded by Trustee Whalen. It was clarified for Trustee Bernius that the benefits of the amendment would affect only one member who would not have made his service minimum due to the Covid epidemic. She thanked the first responders who went out on medical calls early in the pandemic. Deputy Mayor Smith and Trustee O’Neill recused themselves from the vote due to their membership in the Fire Department. Lisa Strollo, 80 New Pointe Pl., asked it there has been any news on the Marina on Meadow Lane. Mayor Siry reported there has been no news from the Army Corps of Engineers regarding their review. The marina owner is due to go to Court on Dec. 6th and will need to file an application with the Planning Board. Al Strollo, 84 New Pointe Pl., asked the Board to pass along any news and wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Dina Rosenberg, 34 Wellington Pl., requested that the Village contact the owner of the old Firehouse on Ireland Place to have them repair the roof and broken windows and maintain the building so the structure is not lost. Additionally, the corner store is in disrepair. Mayor Siry thanked her for the suggestion and said he would contact the owner. Building Inspector Donato will follow up as well. Rizwan Alladin, President of the Ahmadiyyah Movement in Islam Mosque, 64 Union Ave. thanked the Mayor and community for their support of his community’s recent food distribution event which served 100 people. They will be having another food giveaway this weekend and everyone is welcomed. Mayor Siry thanked them for their community outreach and wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving. With no further comments, the Mayor requested a motion to adjourn.
