II. Approval of Minutes: Motion was made by Al Messer to accept the minutes from May 30th,
2018; seconded by Randy Johnson. Motion carried 5-0.
III. Manager’s Report: Greg Bahr, Airport Manager
A. Courtesy Car – The car is being bought today. This will get a GPS tracker put on this.
They will also get lock boxes up for the keys before this is able to be available. The
plan right now is that folks will need to contact Greg Bahr or Randy Johnson in order
to get the lock box code. They will see how that works for awhile and may need to
add contacts as needed. Anyone with any questions or comments regarding this can
get in touch with Greg. Jim Jonas did ask that Greg run this by Ben Krakowka, the
County Attorney to be sure that this is legal to put the GPS Tracker on the vehicle and
would like to see a legal disclaimer regarding this.
B. Flooding – The flooding has been about the same. There has been no damage or ill
effect so far.
C. Maintenance – Everything has been going well. The lights are all working. Mowing is
going well and the mower and tractor are working great.
D. Budget – The budget review meetings have been done. Greg requested money for a
new riding lawnmower, additional maintenance supplies, and a county match for
pavement maintenance which includes pavement crack seal and painting. That also
would include crack seal and markings on the apron.
E. Southwest Montana Sports Car Club – Region 52 “Solo Autocross Event Club – The car
club that is looking at using the apron at the airport has run into a few snags. There is
concern over them damaging the apron which Greg does not believe they will
because they are light vehicles and not going to be going at very high speeds. Greg
would like to see them here as he feels that this would be a great attraction to the
community. At this point too, there is also question about the liability and insurance.
Carlye talked to Mr. Rose and apparently they don’t get proof of their insurance
coverage until right before and event, but assured her that all of this is in order and
that it was for all liability
After extensive conversation about this, it was decided that as long as the insurance
is in order and includes all aspects of liability, and including property damage, that
the board would agree to hold this event at the airport.
Motion was made by Jim Jonas that the Airport Board recommend
approval and will allow the Southwest Montana Sports Car Club –
Region 52, to have its event at the Bowman Field with the stipulation
that the insurance be sufficient to cover all liability, including all medical
and property damage that may occur at or due to this event. This was
seconded by Randy Johnson. Motion passes 5-0.
F. Adventure Above – The folks from Adventure Above flew into our airport and were
staying for a few days. According to Randy, this is a couple who do a blog sort of
thing and are traveling all 50 states in their airplane. The record their “adventures”
and the idea is that they are trying to promote flying. They are staying at the airport
right now in Greg’s trailer and will be here for roughly a week.
G. Ham Radio Operators – The Ham Radio Operators used the airport for their annual
event this last weekend and all went well for them without any concerns.
H. Fly-In – The posters for the fly-in should be done net week and Greg will get them
mailed out to the other airports and posted around the area. Greg asked anyone to
let him know if they wanted some posters to post at local business. Carlye will look
into seeing about getting the Montana Highway Patrol to participate perhaps by
bringing in their airplane to the event. Jim also recommended putting some sort of
ad in the paper and Al Messer recommended the Community Page that is sponsored
by the Chamber of Commerce as a way of also advertising for this.
