Anaconda Deer Lodge County Tree Board/Anaconda 1 Street Tree Project Committee Meeting January 30, 2017, 9:00am Anaconda-DLC Tree Board/Anaconda Street Tree Project Committee [ASTPC] Meeting January 30, 2017, 9:00 am Community Service Center, 3rd Floor I. Present: Ray Lappin, Lydia Janosko, Virginia Loran, Judy Little, Bill Everett, Lorraine Biggs, Sean Steinebach. II. Call to Order a. Minutes from October 25, 2016, were reviewed, motion by Ray, seconded by Virginia to approve. Motion carried. III. Old Business a. Grants update. The committee’s application to DNRC’s Urban Forestry Program has been approved. We will receive $15,000 for our 2017 project. $5000 earmarked to update our Tree Inventory, $2000 allocated for identified hazard tree removal, $2000 for ISA pruning contract. An additional $750 gift from DNRC for the Arbor Day application specific to 5 larger trees to be placed at Benny Goodman Park. b. Focus areas for placement - 2017 ASTPC placement of trees will be; up to ten trees at Benny Goodman Park in addition to 5 large trees from the DNRC Arbor Day gift, up to ten trees at Washoe Park, replacement trees at Kennedy Common, ten [+] trees at the ADLC courthouse; one replacement tree at Dr. Bartoletti’s, one replacement at our Post Office, one replacement at Coffee Corral. Plus other locations on Commercial Avenue and on boulevards though-out our community. We will place tree guards at the trees at Peppermint Patty’s. c. Planting dates May 22-26. Sean will confirm the planting dates with Tom and the crew. We hope to have the crew for the entire week of May 22nd. Monday will be a community-wide clean-up day, the trees will arrive on Tuesday, May 23rd and the planting will be done 23-26. We will identify key volunteers for planting week for planting and distribution: Our celebration BBQ will be on the 26th at Benny Goodman…tentative to crew schedule. d. Pruning Contract – Lydia and Sean will send the request for proposals [RFP] to our local tree service organizations by the end of February. Discussion of offering $1250 for the pruning contract and the additional allocation of funds of $750.00 to the county road department to incentivize the road department director to allow an employee the opportunity to study for the ISA Certification, up to 5 hours a week for up to 30 hours. Lydia and Bill will talk to Wayne, Sean will talk to Jamie Kirby to see if that would be allowable under the perimeters of the grant – if this could come from the funds specific to our pruning contract budget line item of $2000.00. e. Removals- To be identified. Lydia will talk to Kurt Wyant about the four cottonwoods at the courthouse to see if he will allow them to be removed this year and possible 2 additional identified hazard trees for removal on Hickory Street in our historic walking district. Trees will also need to be removed at the Post Office and the Coffee Corral, and other identified hazard trees. f. Tree Inventory Update Sean will update us as time gets closer to June or July. g. Tree Species to offer for sale and planting  Anaconda Deer Lodge County Tree Board/Anaconda 2 Street Tree Project Committee Meeting January 30, 2017, 9:00am Committee decided to offer; Spring Snow flowering crabapple, Mountain Ash, appropriate Maple and Little Leaf Linden. Sean and Lydia will work on identifying the nursery that will provide our trees. Selected trees are tentative to nursery availability. h. Arbor Day/Toby Day Pruning Presentation We will attempt to get Toby Day to present our 2017 Arbor Day Tree Care Workshop on or around April 28th [Arbor Day]. IV. New Business - Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Tree Board present: Sean Steinebach, Lydia Janosko, Judy Little, Bill Everett. Lorraine Biggs, Absent: Bob Andreozzi. Existing ‘codified’ ordinance and draft ordinance no. 250 were reviewed prior to the meeting. Discussion and comment from the board and Chief Executive Bill Everett. Direction to provide the ordinance to County Attorney Ben Krakowka for review, motion by Judy, seconded by Lydia. Motion passed.
