Allison then discussed the various youth programs the Y offers for kids ages 3 – 14. Programs are
scheduled depending upon space and membership feedback. The Y programs are offered at a very
affordable cost with scholarships available. Ted Butler suggested the YMCA contact the City Parks
Department, Todd Haas, with any future requests they may have for the use of soccer fields in 2014.
Allison indicated a local church has offered the use of their facility for their fall outdoor soccer season.
Staff Update
Reviewed facility status report. Staff highlighted that Pickleball was now being offered Tues –
Thurs. A great response has been received. Mr. Butler asked that we share information as the
Parks Dept. has had discussion about installing outdoor Pickleball courts in city parks.
Staff also shared a new video outlining the Andover YMCA Community Center. The video will
be displayed on the community center’s website. The commission thought it may be a good idea
to produce short clips of specific programs and areas within the facility and send those clips to
targeted audiences. Cindy will check with QCTV to see if they are able to assist with these clips.
Commission wondered if sending out USB’s with the video clip could generate more business.
The commission would also like to explore sharing the facility video with other local cable
stations. Staff will look into options and cost, etc.

September Workshop Re-Cap – Went very well. Future city council presentations will occur in
February or March rather than fall… to capture entire calendar year. The commission requested
that a final copy of the PowerPoint presentation be sent to all commission members.
Other Business
Using the overhead projector, Erick shared the community center’s website and highlighted the on-line
registration program.
Mr. Butler asked staff what activities they typically offer during school release days. If space allows, the
facility will offer, open skate, open youth hockey, and open basketball whenever possible. Mr. Butler felt
that it may be nice to come up with flyers outline all the activities available including swim options so it’s
easier for families to plan the day’s activities. Staff can also outline school release activities in future
editions of the Andover Today Newsletter. Staff does send out 4,000 flyers to Rum River, Andover,
Crooked Lake and Ramsey Elementary Schools 3 times a year outlining, Spring, Fall and Winter
Activities which include special events and programs but not specifically school release activities.
Hope 4 Youth – Mr. Kellogg wondered what the next step was to support Hope 4 Youth. He would like
the Andover City Council to support the cause and challenge other cities to support financially. Next step
would be to have Mr. Kellogg speak with the city administrator and Hope 4 Youth to set-up a date for a
future presentation to council. It was also mentioned now that City of Andover is doing their own utility
billing that it may be a possibility to have utility billing inserts made.
Next meeting, November 18, 2013 (changed from original November 11 date – Veteran’s Day)
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm
