Andover YMCA Community Center Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes Monday, November 18, 2013 6:30 pm Andover City Hall In Attendance: Mike Knight, Frank Kellogg, Erick Sutherland, Ted Butler, Allison Boes, Mark Chevalier (left at 7:25 pm), Tony Howard (left at 7:35 pm), and Robin Chambers (left at 7:50 pm) Absent: None Call to Order 6:33 pm Approval of Minutes – October 14, 2013 - minutes approved as written. YMCA Update  36,000 visits in October, up from 2,000 visits from last year.  Thanksgiving open house will be held November 27 – 30 (Wednesday - Saturday)  50% of the Memberships are of Andover Residents  2014 Youth Programs for kids ages 3 – 15 will include: sports, arts, dance and fitness. A new program has been implemented allowing younger kids to be up on the fitness floor.  Harvest Fest was again a successful event – estimated 350 in attendance. Collaborative event with Andover Lions.  Cookies with Santa will be held December 14th.  School release days have been scheduled.  3rd largest YMCA in metro area. A question was asked as to what percentage of households use their local YMCA. How do other YMCA’s compare to Andover? Allison, estimated that 45% of the Andover city residents use the Andover YMCA. Staff Update  Reviewed facility status report. MN premier VB tryouts have been completed. The National volleyball tournament will be held in Minneapolis this year, so MN Premier anticipates that they’ll be renting more field house time in June & July 2014 preparing for the tournament.  The AHYHA tryouts – 30 hours of dryland time rented in field house.  Pickle ball, additional nets have been purchased and 3 additional courts have been striped, now offering 6 pickle ball courts on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3 courts remain available on Tuesdays.  Day introduction to ice program continues to be successful – this is the new program where parents are not required to be out on the ice with the child. Andover YMCA Community Center Advisory Commission Minutes November 18, 2013 Other Business Ted mentioned the poor service he and many others have experienced with Subway. Long lines, poor customer service, understaffed, staff not acknowledging customers at counter and people turned away inquiring about catering and party subs. Erick mentioned that he recently met with the owner and manager, expressing concerns. Erick asked all commission members to report any future experiences good or bad to him. Next meeting will be annual holiday appreciation dinner meeting held January 13, 2014 at 6 pm at Tanners Station. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm Submitted by, Cindy Ramseier
